In memor of Seaforth's fallen heros from World War One
Force. Lieu. Garden was killed in an
airplane mishap at Hooton Hall, Little
Sutton, Cheshire, England. Before
enlisting he was a member of the staff
of the Canadian bank of Commerce in
Tbronta for eight years. He trained for
the air service in Toronto, Texas, and
Deseronto, and left for England in
February, 1918. He is buried at
Eastham (St. Mary) Churchyard,
Cheshire, United Kingdom. He was 26
years old.
Pte. Thomas Edward Govenlock -
was born on May 5, 1892 in McKillop
Twp., Huron County, Ontario and died
on September 30, 1916. He was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. John M.. Govenlock
of Seaforth, Ontario, and was a teach-
er by trade. He enlisted at Montreal,
Quebec, on October 20, 1915 in the 4th
Universities Company, PPCLI and
went overseas in November. He joined
the Signal Section of the 21st Battalion
of the Canadian Infantry (Eastern
Ontario Regiment) in France the lat-
ter part of August 1916, on the Somme.

was instantly killed by a stray shell.
He is buried at Ovillers Military
Cemetery (Courcelette), Somme,
France. Pte. Govenlock was 24 years
old.
William H. Hall information is
unknown
Cpl. William Hart - was born on
November 17, 1878 at Govan, Scotland
and died on September 23, 1918. He
was married to Mrs. Jane Hart,
Egmondville, Ontario and was a
labourer by trade. He enlisted on
January 1, 1916 at Seaforth with
D -Company of the 161st Huron
Battalion and later joined the 2nd
Battalion of the Canadian Machine
Gun Corps. He is buried at Sunken
Road Cemetery, Boisleux-St. Marc,
Pas de Calais, France. He was 39
years old.
Lance Corporal James Scott Hays
- was born on October 3, 1889 at
Seaforth, Ontario and died on June 4,
1916. He was the son of Thomas E.
Hays, of Seaforth, Ontario, and the
late Elsie Hays an was an accountant
by trade. Lance Cpl. Hays was com-
missioned on August 9, 1915 at Regina,
Saskatchewan. He later became a. part
of the Canadian Infantry (Eastern
Ontario Regiment). He has no known
grave and is among the over 55,000
names on the Menin Gate Memorial,
Ypres (Ieper), Belgium. He was 26
years old.
W. Stanley Hays - died on March 3,
1918 and was the son of Stanley and
Mary Hays of Seaforth, Ontario. He
was an air mechanic 2nd Class with
the Royal Flying Corps, Great Britain.
He is buried in the Seaforth (Maitland
Bank) Cemetery, Seaforth, Ontario,
Canada
Lieu. James Ambrose Horan - was
born on December 7, 1880 at Seaforth,
Ontario and died on October 25, 1916.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Horan, of Seaforth, Ontario and was
the husband of Gertrude Catherine
McMurdie Horan, of Kenora, Ontario.
He belonged to the 34th Overseas
Battalion and had previous military
service with the 38th Regiment as
Lieutenant. Lieu. Horan enlisted• for
the Great War on January 15, 1916 at
Dryden, Ontario and joined the 46th
Battalion with the Canadian Infantry
(Saskatchewan Regiment). He was
missing in action and presumed dead.
His name can be found on the Vimy
Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. He
was 34 years old.
Pte. James Johnston Hutchinson
- was born on December 11, 1883 in
Milford County Armagh, Armagh,
Ireland and died on August 24, 1916.
He was the son of Thomas and Annie
Hutchinson, of Milford, Armagh,
Ireland and was a janitor by trade. He
enlisted at Halifax, Nova Scotia on
August 25, 1915 and had former mili-
tary service with the 33rd Huron
Battalion. Pte. Hutchinson later joined
B -Company of the Royal Canadian
Regiment. He is buried at Lijssenthoek
Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was
35 years old.
Pte. James Jamieson - was born on
September 19, 1889 at Seaforth,
Ontario and died on October 26, 1917.
He was the son of William and Mary
Jamieson, of Londesborough, Ontario
and was a farmer by trade. He enlisted
on March 1, 1916 at Camrose, Alberta
and had previous military service with
the 101st Fusiliers Edmonton in 1912.
Pte. Jamieson later joined the 50th
Battalion of the Canadian Infantry
(Alberta Regiment). He is buried at
Nine Elms British Cemetery, Belgium.
He was 28 years old.
Lt. Arthur Smith McLean - was
born on April 29, 1881 at Seaforth,
Ontario an died on August 15, 1917.
He was the son of Murdo Young
McLean and Jenny Smith McLean of
Seaforth, Ontario and was a Dominion
Land Agent at Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Arthur McLean was appointed a lieu-
tenant in the 33rd battalion, CEF in
August, 1915. He was transferred to
the 13th Battalion of the Canadian
Infantry (Quebec Regiment). Lt.
McLean served in France and was
wounded September, 1916. He died of
wounds received at Hill 70, Lens, on
August 15, 1917. He is buried at
Noeux-les-Mines Communal Cemetery,
Pas de Calais, France. He was 36
years old.
Private John Edmund McLeod -
was born on January 5, 1896 in
McKillop Township, Huron County,
and died August 9, 1918. He was the
son of John S. and Sarah Letitia
McLeod, of Seaforth, Ontario (Ethel,
Ontario on attestation papers) and
was a blacksmith by trade. He enlisted
with A -Company of the 161st Huron
Battalion at Brussels, Ontario on
March 20, 1916. He later joined the
18th Battalion of the Canadian
Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment).
He is buried at Crouy British Cemetery,
Crouy-Sur-Somme, France. He was 22
years old.
Pte. Charles McNamara - was born
on October 4,1893 at Seaforth, Ontario
and died on July 1, 1920. He was the
son of Charles McNamara, of Seaforth,
Ontario and Mrs. McNamara. He was
a labourer by trade. Pte. McNamara
enlisted on February 24, 1916 at
Seaforth, Ontario with D -Company of
the 161st Huron Battalion. He joined
the 161st Battalion of the Canadian
Infantry, Canadian Expeditionary
Force. Private McNamara survived
Great War Duty and returned from
overseas service. However, his health
must have been ruined by "trench
fever" and he passed away at his home
town. He was buried at St. James'
Cemetery, Seaforth, Ontario, Canada.
He was 26 years old.
Lt. George Buchannan Mulholland
- was born on January 14, 1896 at
Hensall, Ontario and died on March
21, 1917. He was the son of William
and Isabel Moir Mulholland, of
Seaforth, Ontario and was a druggist
bytrade. He belonged to the 33rd
Regiment and saw seven months of
Active Service with the 70th Battalion,
CEF. Lt. Mulholland enlisted on
August 16, 1916. He was placed with
the 19th Battalion with the Canadian
Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment).
He is buried at Ecoivres Military
Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He
was 21 years old.
Pte. Arthur Cecil Neely - was born
on April 1, 1885, Seaforth, Ontario
and died on June 26, 1917. He was the
son of Simeon and Mary Neely of
Seaforth, Ontario was a baker by
trade. He had six years of former mili-
