Wind farm resolution rejected From Page 1 "I will not be supporting this resolution by the member for Bruce -Grey -Owen Sound," Mitchell wrote. "During the public hearings for the Green Energy Act, no science -based evidence was brought forward to suggest that wind turbine developments were caus- ing adverse health effects. It has been further confirmed by the chief medical officer of health that, based on all sci- entific evidence gathered to date, there exists nothing thing that would demonstrate a casual association between wind tur- bine noise and adverse health effects. "Several of my constituents have .con- cerns regarding their specific properties. lb that end, I have made a written re- quest to the Minister of the Environment to make certain that their outstanding concerns are addressed as a top priority of the academic research chair. Mitchell's statement also noted, "the one thing I've noticed over and over again is that there's not only a large volume of research, documentation and anecdotal information, but a lot of it conflicts and a lot of it doesn't always agree." Mitchell concluded the statement by noting, "I do think we need to debate this." Tetu says HEAT was not surprised at Mitchell's decision not to endorse Mur- doch's resolution. "We suspected the Liberals would vote as a block," he says. "(Mitchell) is not representing her constituents at all. There is no scientific evidence that says turbines cause harm. But, if you have 100 people with health problems around wind turbines, you may not have the smoking gun but you have 100 wit- nesses that saw who pulled the trigger." Although legislators rejected Mur- doch's resolutiorir MAW600 "haxnrlg,111 i0 issue debated in the legislature was a positive step forward for wind farm opposition groups. "Overall, it was good because it brought the is- sue up before the legislature and underlined the importance of it," he says. • -,--...•••,4',-,••••••••••-•-••••••• •••-•- ••••• q.,, R,•-•••«.. .;< :3-.k7r71!,•••• •`;.
