The site, located at www.huro- neast.com, currently has a survey posted near the bottom of its homep- age with seven questions about how to improve the site. . Participants are asked such ques- tions as "Do you find the website easy to navigate?" and "How would you improve the effectiveness of this site?" Huron East economic development officer Jan Hawley says the munici- pality's economic review committee decided it was time to revamp the website after considering it had been using the same format for years and has become cluttered with almost 80 links. "We want to make it easier to ac- cess," Hawley says. "We don't want to make it look too busy." The online ' survey is completely confidential and doesn't ask partici- pants for their names. There is space at the end of the survey about what could be added to the site that is not already there. Hawley says although only five people have taken the survey, their feedback shows some strong opin- ions. "People have been saying `make the pages easier to read,'" Hawley says. "We have an aging population and Sarah McDonald photo Jeff Nyman throws a pie at vice principal Heather Marcy dur- ing an assembly at St. Anne's Secondary School recently to cele- brate the success of this year's Walkathon fund- raising activities, which totalled $9,361. maybe the print needs to be larger." Hawley says results of the survey show people want to see more cur- rent information regarding .munici- pal affairs posted on the site and most agree the homepage is not ap- pealing. "We've been talking with web designers and they said even the colours you select for your website have a lot to do with how long a per- son will linger on the site," Hawley says. Preliminary results of the survey also suggest users would like to see a search engine feature and a site map, which would feature a list of the pages on the website. "There is room for improvement," Hawley says.
