HEAT member asks MPP to support
moratorium on wind turbine projects
An Open letter to Carol Mitchell, public about the adverse effects of
MPP for Huron Bruce Industrial Wind Turbines (IWT's)
Cc: Huron County newspapers and their transmission lines.
Dear Mrs. Mitchell,
In May of this year, local residents
were shocked to see plans for a wind
energy project consisting of ten, two
MW, 400 -ft turbines proposed for the
St. Columban area. Since that time
our organization has beenformed to
stop the project and to educate the

While at first we met resistance at
virtually every level of government,
we now have the support of the mu-
nicipality of Huron East, the County
of Huron, the Huron County Federa-
tion of Agriculture and the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture. All call for
a moratorium on further wind ener-
gy development until a study can be
done to determine the safety of these
projects.
Evidence has begun to mount up
from local wind farms, from the U.S.,
and from all over the world, that
IWT's create major health issues,
both physical and psychological, and
also, as a result, greatly diminish
the value of residential homes in the
vicinity of these "alternative energy
sources". The recent regulations
passed within the Renewable Ener-
gy Act are completely inadequate to
guarantee public safety.
On October 1 and October 6 of this
year, two public information meet-
ings were held in Owen Sound and
Walkerton, ostensibly to calm pub-
lic fears about wind farms. It is our
understanding that a representative
from your office was in attendance
at Walkerton. Chaired by Dr. Ha-
zel Lynn, Chief Medical Officer of
Health for Grey Bruce and pr. Ray
Copes from the Ontario Agency for
Health Protection and Promotion,
the meetings were attended by many
wind opponents, including members
of HEAT. As concern after concern
was raised by people fearful of the
proximity of the turbines and, as vic-
tims of the wind projects told their

Now it remains for the Ontario Leg-

That in the Opinion of this House,
the Province of Ontario must impose
a moratorium on all new wind tur-
bine projects in Ontario . until such
time as the Chief Medical Officer of
Health, Ministry of Health and Min-

that wind turbines do not have any
adverse health effects on people who
