"I visited a refugee camp where I had multiple requests for soccer shoes. And, I know we've got lots of soccer shoes that kids have outgrown in this area," he says. The two Catholic churches in the Seaforth area have been working with the Sacred Heart parish in Bre- man Essiam in the central region of Ghana where they've sent shipping containers full of food and medical supplies. They've also sent shoes and used cellphones over the past few years. SEAFORTH INSURANCE BROKER LTD/HMG • Home • Commercial *Auto • Farm • Out of Province Travel Insurance: 41 Main St. S. The project is happening through an orga- nization in Lon- don, Ont. called the Ministerial De- velopment and Relief Program. "We're becoming a sister community to the Sacred Heart par- ish," he says. "We're just waiting to hear back from CIDA (Ca- nadian International Development Agency) if they'll help us with funding. They could match or double or tri- ple our contributions," he says. Father Chris trav- elled to Ghana for the first time in August to report back on how the school project is progressing. "It was the first time I've ever been in Africa. I expected a level of poverty but it was the hos- pitality and warm welcome that sur- prised me the most," he says. While there, Father Chris spent a lot of time watching children playing Susan Hundertmark photo Father Chris Gillespie holds a few pairs of soccer shoes that he's sending to children in Ghana. ffuim ' l r Catholic District Sdtool Board Welcome to Kindergarten The Huron -Perth Catholic District School Board, its Catholic elementary schools and its community partners are pleased to offer a quality learning opportunity for our young children entering school for the first time.
