Mayor Bill Dowson delivered those words to Bluewater council Oct. 5, fol- lowing a meeting bet*een a local delegation and the GreenField Ethanol management team in Chatham -Kent. "Certainly, Hensall is not off the radar screen," said Dowson. As it is, construction has yet to begin on the . long -anticipated GreenField Ethanol plant for Hensall, though Dowson reported all indications are the plant will go ahead but corn might not be the fuel that keeps the plant's fires burning. "There is talk of alternative sources, like switch grass," said Dowson, add- ing. GreenField Ethanol wants to focus on getting its Chatham -Kent plant operational before moving forward with Hensall. "It may not come for 2011," said Dowson. "It hasn't fallen off the rails. It hasn't disappeared into the wilderness. They're just changing direction." Councillor. at -large James Fergusson, who was also part of the -delegation, said he, too, feels confident the plant will open once demand rises and com- modity prices fall. He noted Ontario's soon-to-be rolled out Green Energy Act spells out that there will be demand for alternative fuel sources. Deputy Mayor Dave Johnston noted GreenField Ethanol is in the process of planning a community meeting in order to allay fears about future plans. "You may find the Hensall plant is going to be one of the leading plants," he said. Part of GreenField Ethanol's commitment to the project is $6.6 million to improve .water capacity on the Exeter-Hensall pipeline. That project is also slated to cost Hensall ratepayers $3.8 million. County looking to house air navigation school memorabilia Cheryl Heath Huron County is considering ways to host the real McGee in its museum collection. In making ° a report to a recent county committee -of -the -whole ses- sion, cultural services direc- tor Beth Ross reported a collection. of Port Albert Air Navigation School memorabilia, owned by longtime his- tory buff Eugene Mc- Gee, is something the museum would like to add. The problem, said Ross, , is . McGee is of. . ferrng up the collection with the condition that all of it is permanently on display. The request for the condition itself is against county policy. Further, noted Ross, the county currently does not have the- amount of space needed to display McGee's vast collection. "Nobody else in the world has the collection he does," said Ross in praise of , McGee's memorabilia, which she noted McGee has been as- • sembling since the age of 10, when he lived across the road from the Port Albert school. One possible avenue for exhibit- ing McGee's collection, said Ross, is the Sky Harbour Gallery located in the Goderich airport. But, she add- ed, such a move would require some funds from . the county since more space would be required, and the site is not accessible. In short, said Ross, her department does not have a budget to de- velop an exhibit. "Having said that, the collection is Avery impor- tant to Huron County's history," she said. While councillor s opt- ed only to receive Ross's report and not to commit to funding 'an exhibit, Coun. Deb Shewfelt (Goderich) suggested Ross consider approaching the Goderich branch of the Royal Canadian Legion to inquire as to whether it would be open to hosting a permanent exhibit of McGee's collection. Ross agreed to follow up on the idea. `Nobody else in the world has the collection he does,' Beth Ross, Huron County Cultural Services Director • The Huron Expositor • October 14, 1009 Page TOLL FREE: 1-800-265-8587 Fax: 519-289-4093 ST.
