Developer ordered to move all debris but crushed brick
Property standards hearing Of appeal hears rubble complaints at former school site
Susan Hundertmark
While Huron East council is al-
lowing crushed brick and block to
remain at the site of a new subdivi-
sion planned for the former Seaforth
Public School on Market Street, all
other material must be removed by
Oct. 15.
Brian Barnim, representing Aljack
Holdings Ltd., attended a property
standards hearing of appeal at last
Tuesday's Huron East council meet-
ing to address a property standards
violation at the site.
Neighbours, who also presented a
petition to council Sept. 9 reiterat-
ing their request to have the rubble
pile on the former school property
cleaned up, had complained to coun-
cil about the rubble in May, a com-
plaint that was turned over to the
bylaw enforcement officer.
"It is an eyesore. We have put up
with it long enough. We were told by
Brian Barnim that he -would have
it all cleaned up by the end of May,
2009. So far, we have not seen any-
thing being done," said the petition
signed by 10 neighbours on Market
Street.
Barnim told council that much
the rubble remaining on
the lot is reusable, re-
cyclable material that
will be used for roads
and backfill.
"It does not make
sense to take it to the
landfill or to take it
off-site. To us, it has
monetary value and in
the last four days, it
has been crushed and
stockpiled," he said,
adding that he would
supply engineering to
show the material is
reusable.
Barnim also said that
he - had made an offer
in the past to windrow
the debris, to level it so it wasn't in a
pile or to move it to another location
on the property but that his solution
wasn't acceptable to the municipal-
ity.
"There were truckloads and truck-
loads of debris removed from the Barnim he received on April 27 say -
property. It was not a place for ro- ing that he wasn't prepared to spend
of dents to live because the drywall and any more money on the site until

posts and railings with solid concrete barrier or parapet walls.
At this time, it is anticipated that the bridge rehabilitation project would be completed during the 2010
construction season. The affected road section of Cranbrook Road would be closed during the
construction period and traffic would be diverted around the project site onto adjacent roads.
