The Seaforth Junior Broomball
League will hold its season opener
on Oct. 7, but league organizer Rob
Hunking says more players are
needed to fill out the rosters.
The league held two registration
days on Sept. 2-3, but fewer play-
ers signed up than were expected.
Only 35 players have joined
teams so far. Hunking says at the
end of last season, there were 90.
He says he expects many will
register late, by showing up on the
first game night in October.
•
Hunking still expects to have
peewee, bantam and midget coed
teams to have enough players this
season, along with boys' and girls'
juvenile squads.
Hunking says more girls have
come out to register this season,
with the coed teams being split
about 50-50 between girls and
boys.
The teams will practise every
Wednesday evening, with the pee-
wees. hitting the ice at 7:30 p.m.,
the bantams going on at 8:25 p.m.
and the midgets suiting up for 9:10
p.m. The first juvenile squad will

ing up Oct.7
practise at 10 p.m.
Hunking says a game schedule
will be posted on the website and
can be viewed at www.seaforthb-
roomball. ca.
The teams will once again be
traveling to Mildmay, Blyth and
Palmerston for games, which will
consist of two 15 -minute halves.
The season will run until the end
of February, with the provincial
championship held in mid-Febru-
ary.
Two fundraisers will be held this
season. Players who have already
registered have received an order
form to sell Elmira Chicken Prod-
ucts. In December, players will be
selling poinsettias to cover players'
costs for tournaments, such as fuel
and hotel room expenses.
Hunking says the league is also
looking for assistant coaches to
help out.
To register as a player or coach,
call Honking at 519-523-4316.
He says the cost to register is
$175, but special rates for families
are available..
Each player will also need to pur-
chase a broomball, shoes and a hel-
met with facemask.
