A positive public reception to last
fall's Doors Open Haunted Huron
has prompted plans for a new event
celebrating the paranormal at the
Van Egmond House on Oct. 30-31.
The "Spirit Weekend" will see the
return of London-based psychic me-
dium Annette Sullivan, who'll offer
individual psychic readings, attempt
to channel the spirits of Col. Anthony
Van Egmond and his wife Susanna,
and lead a seance inside the historic
house.
Last October, about 400 people
came through the Van Egmond House
during the Doors Open Haunted Hu-
ron event, making it one of the most
popular sites among visitors touring
Huron County's churches and his-
toric buildings.
Sullivan says that when she first
visited the 160 -year-old house last
year, she immediately felt a psychic
connection to it.
"I went early and did a paranormal
investigation," Sullivan says. "I went
in with an open mind."
Sullivan says she heard doors move
on their own and saw glowing .orbs
inside the house.
"I encountered a spirit at the top of
the otairs," she says. "The spirit was
looking for help and he was trapped
in the house, looking for acknowl-
edgement of a wrongdoing, so his
soul could be released."
Sullivan says she believes she en-
countered the spirit of Col. Anthony
Van Egmond, who was incarcerated
by the Canadian government for his
role in the Rebellion of 1837 and lat-
er died in confinement.
Sullivan says she had no prior
knowledge of the history of the Van
Kefreshments!

Despite its eeriness, Sullivan says
her encounter with the spirit was
"uplifting and positive."
Sullivan says at her London-based
psychic service, called "A Serene Mo-
ment," she specializes in connecting
the living with their loved ones who
have "crossed over."
On Oct. 30, she'll be leading ase-
ance and attempting to contact spirit.
energy within the house.
Admission is $20 per person and
Sullivan will offer two sessions, one
at 6:45 p.m. and another at 8:30
p.m.
Each session can accommodate
about 25 people. Tickets will be on
sale at the Van Egmond House dur-
ing its Ciderfest fundraiser on Sept.
27, or by calling town hall at 519-
527-0160.
On Oct. 31, the Van Egmond House
will be open to the public from 9 a.m.
till 5 p.m.
Sullivan will be . offeringided
tours through the house for $5 and'
psychic readings for the price of $20.
per person.
Part of the proceeds from the two-
day event. will benefit the Van Eg-
mond Foundation.
"I can see this becoming an annu-
al event," says Jan Hawley, Huron
East's economic development officer
and organizer of the event. "I believe
there is a huge following for this kind
of thing and we're hoping to attract
people from beyond our borders."

Hawley says
she plans on
printing bro-
chures and post-
ers promoting
the event this
week.
She also hopes
to approach
downtown mer-
chants to see if
they're •interest-
ed in setting up
displays show-
casing their ser-
vices on the Van
Egmond House
property dur-
ing the two-day
event.
A committee for
Doors Open Haunted Huron, from
which the Spirit Weekend took part
of its inspiration from, has decided a
Doors Open event will not be offered
in Huron County this year.
Doors Open events are happening
across the province this month and
next, where visitors are encouraged
to view historic buildings an land-
marks in different communities.
The committee for the Huron Coun-
ty event decided to run Doors Open
locally every two years, because of
the amount of
time and effort it
takes to organize,
Hawley, says.
The Van Egmond. House will host a Halloween weekend of
spooky activities.
