"We've been asking for a top -up and received $300,000 earlier this year but we used that up quickly when the economy started to visibly go south," said Jim Niesen, business and loans manager at the HBDC. Neisen said the additional $750,000 will benefit another 15 to 20 Huron County businesses looking for a high risk loan and affect as many as 150 local jobs. "A lot of business owners are strug- gling with their cash flow with the current low ebb of the economy and this money will help them stay in business until the Huron County public starts buying again," said Neisen. The HBDC can lend up to $150,000 at a time to local small business own- ers and Neisen said at least half of the small businesses in Huron Coun- ty have used the HBDC's services over the past 16 years. • Huron -Bruce MP Ben Lobb was on hand at the HBDC last Thursday to pass the cheque supporting the local Commu- nity Futures Development Corporation. "It's a great use of taxpay- ers' money and it's the right thing to do," said Lobb of the grant. Lobb called the HBDC and its contribu- tion " to the lo- cal economy a "bright shining light."
