olumban wins Third
East Division Cup
St. Columban's Western Ontario Soccer
League team defeated the Assyrian club 4-1
Aug. 26 to claim the Third East Division
up.
Goals came from Craig Docking, Tony
Dekroon, Kevin Ryan and Dave Verberne.
Keeper Joe Dekroon played a consistent,
game in net, preventing the Assyrians from
scoring more than one goal against him.
"It was a solid effort from everybody," says
coach Tony Arts. "Once we got the first goal,
they seemed to die and we poured it on."
In the semi-final round, St. Columban de-
feated Norfolk 1-0 and in the first round,
the team beat Woodstock 4-2.
The St. Columban squad still has a cou-
ple games remaining in the season, against
Woodstock on Sept.19 and they're taking
Y
on the Assyrians again on Sept. 27.
Ringette Association sees
increase in registration
a •
The Seaforth Ringette Association held two
registration days last week and 69 players
signed up to hit the ice this season.
Registration is up from last year, when 55
players signed up.
Ringette Association president Dave Garrick
says he's hoping there will be enough players
for six teams.
He says the association still needs a few more
"Belle" division players, ages 16-18, to fill out
the team. •
Garrick says currently there are not enough
players to make up a ladies' team, for players
ages 19 and older.
Garrick says anyone interested in joining any
of the teams can phone him at 519-527-2685.
The cost to join the "Bunnies" team is $200,
and the cost to join all other teams is $375.
• Garrick says he's trying to start up a web
site for the Seaforth Ringette Association and
that he's also looking for sponsors to help pay
for 100 new jerseys. He says about 80 jerseys
have so far been paid for.
Other fundraising initiatives for the season
include selling $10 tickets for a Dec. 20 draw,
for a grand prize of $1,000 cash, and a second..
prize of $500 and a third worth $250.
Nei Orleans Pizza cards will also be sold
this year..
Garrick, who coached last season's tweens
team that won the Huron -Perth championship,
says he's also planning on hosting a National
Ringette League game.
No date has yet been set for the game.
