Elevator ordeal
leads to safety
proposals
Susan Hundertrnark
After a 13 -year-old boy got
stuck in the Seaforth Library's
elevator for an hour and a half
during a recent power outage,
Tuckersmith Coun. Larry
McGrath wants to see a gen-
erator installed in case it ever
happens again.
"We'd just need a six -circuit
panel. It's not that expensive
to do,"said McGrath, adding
that he'd like to be able to
respond locally if someone is
trapped in the elevator and
there's a medical issue or : an
extended power outage.
"It's imperative that ev-
erybody is trained as well,"
he said, referring to staff at
buildings, like the library,
where there are elevators.
Mayor Joe Seili pointed out
that the county staffs the li-
brary, not Huron East and
McGrath suggested a reg-
istered letter be, sent to the
county requesting its staff be
trained.
Because Huron East owns
the Seaforth library building,
Clerk -Administrator Jack
McLachlan said the munici-
pality could install a plug and
switch to allow a generator to
be plugged into the elevator to
provide enough power to re-
lease someone trapped during
a cower outage.
We'll look into the cost of
that. It will depend on the el-
evator company as well," he
said.

And, whiffs the four neighbours who
appeared as appellants at the hearing
continued to express concerns about
the density, the loss of green space,
infrastructure and increased traffic
caused by the proposed development,
lawyers for both the municipality of
Huron East and developers Aback
Holdings Ltd. asked that the OMB
deny the appeal and uphold the zon-
ing bylaw to allow the development to
go ahead.
