throughout the entire season. We
had a really strong team," says coach
Cindy Nigh, who adds they played
18 games during the season.
Nigh says the team worked really
well together during the tournament
and credited pitcher Chad Higenell
and first base player Ryan Govier
with "some•-esome catches."
"It was an amazing year," she
says.
The Winthrop Mites won the B
championship, losing their first game
11-10 to Blyth to enter the B side of
the tournament.
"It was a real nailbiter," says coach
Chris Cardno of the first game.
Winthrop then went on to beat Hol-
mesville 19-6 and Londesboro 6-5 for
the championship.
"The bases were loaded with two
out and they walked in the winning
run," says Cardno of the champion-
ship game.
Although the Winthrop team had
lost its last seven games before the
final tournament, Cardno says the
team really came together for the
tournament.
"The kids played incredibly - they
were a totally different team once
they got into the tournament," he
says.
