Variety show presented to honour retiring hairdresser
Queensway residents, staff, vol-
unteers and family members bid
a fond farewell to long time hair-
dresser and volunteer, Bill Gib-
son on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
After 38 years of volunteering
at Queensway, Bill will be moving
to the Toronto area in the coming
months.
Residents, staff and volunteers
presented a variety show to hon-
our Bill, consisting of poems,
songs and skits. Memories were
shared by Mary Ellen Zielman,
activities director when Bill first
started volunteering at Queen-
sway and Carol Gascho, present
director of programs.
Residents of the retirement
home had composed some hilari-
ous songs set to familar tunes
and nursing home residents, Do-
reen Anderson
and Alice Par-
sons each shared
poems. Ed Galloway sang "Danny
Boy" and Mildred Gingerich sang
"In the Garden."
Pastor Elly Dow who had her-
self served for a number of years
as Queensway's pastoral care vol-
unteer, had everyone in stitches
with a hilarious skit about a
farmer's shopping excursion.
Doris Jantzi, administrator
when Bill began serving at Queen-
sway was also in attendance.
Present administrator Kathy
Haldsworth shared a poem to
conclude the program.
Music Therapist Lisa Stewart
played piano for everyone's en-
joyment while refreshments were
served.
Queensway's
resident baking
group had decided
to bake carrot cake made from
Bill's own special recipe in the
Queensway cookbook for the
event.
Harvey Smith and Devon Mar-
tene gave a wonderful program
Friday evening in the Retirement
Home Lounge,
performing
for a packed
house.
