"You've got to be confident but not over confident. We've had some re- ally good successes but that doesn't mean it will happen. We have the experience and we hope we will win but anything can happen," she says. Carter, Jo Anne Bugler, Maureen Thompson and Sharon Farrish won silver at the lawn bowling provin- cials in Hanover recently, earning a This Spo Available Call the Huron Expositor 527-0240 spot in the nationals, which run from Aug 16 to 22 in Victoria. At the provincials, they lost one game to a Belleville -area team dur- ing their first three games, putting them into the silver medal round. "If you win your first three games, you play for gold. For the last couple of years, we seemed to have decided to go the long route," laughs Carter. Her team won five games at the provincials including the silver med- al game against Milton. Their first game at the nationals will be against the Ontario gold med- al team but Carter isn't intimidated by that fact. "We caro beat them. We weren't playing that well in Hanover but this time, there's not going to be any fooling around," she says. Travelling from Ontario's wet sum- mer to B.C.'s uncharacteristically dry summer, Carter is hoping the sun keeps shining when her team travels to B.C. "I don't mind it hot - it's so much better than wet when you're lawn bowling. Lawn Bowling is a good sport in good weather so more sun is fine," she says. Carter's team will play seven games against each of the other teams who quajified for the nationals. "This is my eighth national tourna- ment and we've gotten a medal every- time so we're hoping for that again.. We have a good team but we've got to have a little luck as well," she says.
