"We have requested a contribution towards the legal expenses, which are considerable and advertising ex- penses, which are minimal in com- parison," says Tetu. "We've received a very good re- sponse from between 60 and 70 in- dividual donations, some with the generosity right up there. People are protecting their property values and their health. We've had a number of donations in the thousands," he says. Tetu says donations are -made with the promise of confidentiality and careful re- cords so that do - WEEKENDS IN THE PARK FARMER'S MARKET Fresh Ontario Grown Fruits and Vegetables •Handmade Local Crafts •Honey & Maple Syrup 'Homemade Baking 'Flowers & Plants •Fresh Meats For more info call 524-5356 SATURDAYS 8 am to 1 pm (?J South Side Courthouse GO2D.ERICH FLEA MARKET ( Previously held at Huron County Gaol ) Unique items including new & used, books, jewellery, golf clubs, toys, trading cards, collectibles, produce & plants and more! HEAT incorporated a few months ago and is issuing receipts for the personal records of the donors. Requests for . donations were sent to everyone who signed HEAT's forms at its two public meetings in St. Columban and Seaforth. Tetu is guessing that the expenses could total as little as $60,000 and as much as $100,000. Tetu says the most touching dona- tion was a cheque for $10 from Jason Lamont's younger cousins. He says the donation was sent out of concern that Jason, who is blind and relies on his hearing and echolocation to move and play has already experi- enced difficulties with wind turbines in other locations. Getting a reputation as "those peo- ple from Seaforth," HEAT is getting phone calls from Central Huron 'and West Perth from residents concerned about wind farms coming to their ar- eas. "People are calling us for help to set up their own public meetings, asking if we have presentations they can use," he says. Region's unemployed figures still on rise The number of unemployed people in this re- gion jumped by 800 in July. Statistics Canada reported Friday the total number of unemployed people in the Perth - Huron -Grey -Bruce region, which includes Stratford, was 14,200 in July. Figures for Seaforth and Huron County spe- cifically are not available from StatsCan. The local unemployment rate was 8.7 per cent, up from 8.5 per cent in June. Compared to one year ago, unemployment in this region has more than doubled. In July 2008, the local unemployment rate was 3.7 per cent and the total number unem- ployed was 6,200. The local rate was slightly higher than the national rate of 8.6 per cent but less tl}an the provincial rate, 9.3 per cent. The rate in the largest two nearby cities was 9.9 per cent in Kitchener and 10.9 per cent in London. Canada shed another 45,000 jobs in July as more people struggled to find work. Most of the job losses were in Quebec. Ontario actually picked up 50,700 full-time jobs, mostly in the services sector, which offset losses in construc- tion. Student summer unemployment climbed 20.9 per cent -- the highest it's even been in July.
