Localriders prepare
to hit
the motocross

Local riders will be competing with
an international field as riders from
across Canada, the U.S and abroad
make the trek to Walton this week
for the annual TransCan Nationals.
The motocross track at Chris Lee's
. farm is Canada's motocross melting
pot.
The lion's share of racers comes
from South Western Ontario, includ-
ing local riders Scott Vande Borne,
of Egmondville, Trevor Keys, of Sea-
forth, Tyler Listman, of Seaforth,
Matt Shannon, of Seaforth, Josh
Shea, of Seaforth, Caden Lee, of Eg-
mondville, James Emmrich, of Wal

does, surprisingly beating out Cen-
tral Ontario.
In fact, there are nearly as many
riders from the B.0 mainland as
there are from Central Ontario, and
more than from Northern Ontario.
Manitoba and Saskatchewan both
kick in a sizable number .of racers,
which when combined are more than
the entries from Northern Ontario.
The 2009 Walton TransCan has 20
confirmed entries in the four to six-
year-old pee -wee class. At the other
end of the scale, 33 confirmed entries
are in the plus -40 class. And there
are 42 women. entered in the Ladies'

leader of the American Pro brigade,
but Walton is also a breeding ground
for future Americanmotocross pros.
In the past guys like Nick Wey, Josh
Woods, Travis Pastrana and Jason
Lawrence all raced TransCan as am-
ateurs.
Michael Kok, of ' the Republic of
South Africa, is racing the Youth.
Class at Walton this year.
The Vet class has a slew of fast guys
entered this year, including Jean
Sebastien Roy, Marco Dube, Josh
Woods and of course Ryan Gauld.
Larisa Shea is the official vocal-
ist for the 2009 Walton TransCan,
singing the national anthem for the
opening of both the amateur and pro
programs on Wednesday and Sun-
day, Aug. 16.
Larisa, age 10, of RR 5 Seaforth
won the TransCan karaoke competi-
tion in 2008 with a rivetting perfor-
mance of John Lennon's "Imagine."
She has been attending motocross
races since she was four and loves to
come and cheer on and support her
big brother Josh and his friends.

Adrianna Herrera came second in
the girls' 15 and under shotput and
fourth in discus.
Tyler Morey came third in the boys'
13 and under 800 metre run, sixth in
the 200 metre run and 16th in long
jump.
Curtis McCallum came third in the
boys' 17 and under 1500 -metre run.
Ashley Campbell came third in the
girls' 15 and under long jump and
sixth in triple jump.
Melissa Glanville came third in the
400 -metre run and fourth in the 800 -
metre run.
Luke Harrison came fourth inthe
boys' 17 and under 110 metre hur-
dles, fifth in the 100 -metre dash and
sixth in the 400 metre run.
Joe Metzger came fifth in the boys'
15 and under 100 metre dash and
fifth in the 200 metre run.`
Miranda Burns ' came sixth in the
girls' 15 and .under 800 metre run
and sixth in the 1500 metre run.
Cody Kropf came sixth in the boys'
13 and under 100 metre dash.
Claire McFadzean came seventh
in the girls' 15 and under 200 metre
run and seventh in the long jump.
Shauna Gagnier carne seventh in
the •girls' 13 and under 100 metre
dash and seventh in long jump.

Coaches Comments: Another two big' shut
out wins and we continue to score a lot of goals.
In 12 games played we have an impressive 49
goals for and only four against.
We are getting goals from a lot of different
players, 17 out of our 22 players have scored
at least one goal. This extends our unbeaten
streak to 12 games and we remain in first
place in our division. Our next game will be
played in St. Columban on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.
against America.
Mackenzie Teatero came seventh
in the boys' 13 and under 100 metre
dash and seventh in the 200 metre
run.
Jake Harrison came seventh in the
boys'. 13 and under 200 metre run
and 14th in long jump.
Allana Beuermann came 10th in
the girls' 13 and under long jump
and 13th in the 100 metre dash.
