"We've gone on at this for seven months and we're going to go on for an- other seven months. We need to make our mind up," said Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler. While councillors had been debat- ing between a used tanker and a new one for months, they decided recently to tender for a new truck. = r But, when the ten- der came to council, Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan wondered if the company with the winning tender - Resqtech Systems Inc. in Woodstock - could be approached for a deal for three tanker trucks over the next three years. "It's not uncommon that we . add bells and whistles after the fact (of accepting a tender). This would just be a big bell and whistle," said Ma- cLellan. )u td 'We've gone on at this for seven months and we're going to go on for another seven need But, Mayor Joe Seili questioned if the municipality's requi- sition policy would allow the request when the tender did not specify a price for three trucks. "Can you do this if you didn't give the others the same.: option?" he said. "I'm not putting my neck on the line for this." Seili also questioned if the cur- rent council could commit to a three- year purchase when it is nearing the end of its term. Clerk -Administrator Jack McLachlan said that while council could likely commit the next council to the purchase since it was similar to a debenture issue, he said the con- cern about the tendering process was "iffy» MacLellan still wanted Huron East Fire Chief Marty Bedard to ask Resqtech about possible deals if there was a three -truck package. "We can discuss it after the fact if it's right or wrong or fits the procure- ment policy," he said. McKillop Coun. Bill Siemon said he'd feel better buying the first truck and then seeing if Resqutech would. give Huron East a deal on the two next trucks. "We've been on this long enough. Get one truck and tender for the next two and get this over with," added Tuckersmith Coin. Les Falconer, who- said he didn't think it was right to do what MacLellan was suggest- ing. Seili pointed out that council doesn't know what sort of trucks Huron East's three fire departments are looking for. "We've got three halls with three different areas of response - will it work in all three halls? I prefer they know exactly what they're get- ting because they're the ones using them," he said. "I'd like to see the replacement schedule before we go for two more tankers," said Seili. Huron East Fire Chief Marty Be- dard pointed out that he thought Brussels .Fire Department was look- ing for a new rescue van next, not a tanker. Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath said he was against the tender for the new tanker' truck, adding that he didn't think council received the information it was looking for when searching for a used truck. Voting in favour of accepting the tender were Mayor Joe Seili, Dep- uty -Mayor Bernie MacLellan, Grey Coun. Orval Bauer, McKillop Coun. Andrew Flowers, Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler, Tuckersmith Coun. Les Fal- coner and McKillop • Coun. Bill Sie- mon. Voting against accepting the ten- der were Grey Coun. Alvin McLel- lan, Seaforth Coun. Bob :Fisher, Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath and Brussels Coun. Frank Stretton. Absent was Brussels Coun. David Blaney. :1* 41EVAMUMW`:?: 4',i'f;Y.. `.NQ;'4Z'•':';ti'sf,f !;i YOUR RENOVATION AND HOME SPECIALISTS PLAN NUMBER 7-3-894 DRAMATIC ARCHED ENTRANCE DOUG CAMPBELL TEXTURED CONCRETE STAMPINQ • aerial aid kwra.rd *sea • 4 y wa new all old uanetc Weir Nies Wait Pepdaces, rir, sem, Peers, fees, beau etc. • wear opplications iuciric &heap, sieats, sips, p &b, Mew, I,aksi_s, BBQ etc. • rcwwd, repair dl cacrelc • prig CERTIFIED FLEX -CEMENT INSTALLER 519-527-0721 cell 441-3684 RR41 Seaforth diamonelcoricreteoikcc.on.ca ALL DESIGNS, PLANS D RENDERINGS 0 COPYRIGHT JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LIMITED • PERSONAL SECURITY • ALARM RESPONSE • LOSS PREVENTION • GUARD SERVICE THIS DESIGN INCLUDES AN UNFINISHED BASEMENT office/fax: 519-393-5289 cell:519-801-0246 - email: tntgroupinc®rogers.com Au 1MiwM 11400711,I,n ...r, uaa.,.r„srw Renovating? can 1111 BLUIEWAT .r/✓Ltatnannrrts" 394 Huron Rd.
