Kids Care group following footsteps of Free the Children
Jacob McGavin has high hopes
with his group Kids Care, but he's
following in the footsteps of someone
who made it work.
McGavin, a Walton resident who
just graduated Grade 8, is looking to
follow Craig Kielburger's path. Kiel -
burger is best known for his group;
Free The Children.
The charity, which Kielburger
started when he was 12, spans the
globe, fighting child labour.
McGavin's group hasn't got a de-
fined. goal yet, all .he knows is he
wants to help, and he's doing that
by donating the money he raises to
Kielburger's group.
"I want to make a difference, but
we haven't picked a definite focus
yet," McGavin said.
The group sells t -shirts and bricks
t raise . money for Free the Chil-
dren, and, after two years working,
the group has raised half of their
$20,000 goal.
. For the future, the group has other
plans, including -trying to have fed-
eral authorities ensure that there is

cident, visit www.turbiriesyndrome.
com:80/?p=3010. You can educate
yourself and then make an informed
decision if you want wind turbines
this close to you or this close to your
neighbour.
So to the representatives of RES,
yes there are problems with wind
turbines in the UK. What other mis-
information are you submitting?
But maybe there are no problems
here in Ontario. In January 2009,
Prince Edward County requested to
the Prime Minister of Canada, Ste-
phen Harper, due to the discrepan-
cies that exist on the health effects
of industrial wind turbines, that a
study of low -frequency noise and
electrical magnetic disturbances be
established and that authoritative
regulations and guidelines be cre-
ated (read not provincial agencies).
In March of 2009, Dr. Hazel Lynn,
Medical Officer of Health of Grey -
Bruce endorsed Prince Edward
County's request due to the health
issues that hadbeen occurring in
her region. This request of Prince
Edward County has been circulated
to all MPs and MPPs as well as being
endorsed by Oxford County munici-
pality as they placed a morotorium
on wind turbines until communica-
tion from the Prime Minister is re-
ceived.
Further health concerns are ex-
pressed by four doctors in the Leam-
ington Post's " Letters to the Editor"
on July 22, 2009. Doctors Enrique
Guerra, Sheila Horen, Martha Lead -
man, Alan Russell expressed health
concerns with wind turbines and
asked the Ministry of Health to con-
duct a study.
So, yes local community residents,
there are health concerns with wind
turbines.. If one person suffers, we
all suffer.
Question the background and the
biases of the RES salespeople. Do
your own research. Make your deci-
sion based on information that you
have found.
Talk to some of the people in Ripley
and Shelbourne who have been dis-
placed from their homes (I have.).
Ask about the health problems hap-
pening at Port Burwell.
You may find that those wind tur-
bine companies had told those com-
munities that there were no health
problems in the long-term studies in
the UK too.
Remember, once the turbines go
up, they are not coming down for
a long time and we the community
members will have to deal with the
consequences. Only you can make
the right, decision.
