suspended after
'warn' on
roadside test
A 23 -year-old Huron East
man was charged with speed-
ing and issued a three-day
suspension on Aug. 8 at ap-
proximately 8:30 a.m. when
his vehicle was stopped on
Londesboro Road.
Speaking with the driver,
the officer detected the odour
of alcohol coming from' the
driver's breath and a roadside
breath resulted in a "warn"
indicating the driver had too

HEAT asks,
MOE for more
study on CASA
wind proposal
Susan fgndertmark
Concerned about "inadequacies" in
the environmental screening report
written by CASA Engineering and
Construction on two wind farm proj-
ects planned for the St. Columban
area, Huron East Against Turbines
(HEAT) has submitted an "elevation
request" to the Ministry of the Envi-
ronment.
In a. 19page :request to the direc-
tor of environmental assessment at
the MOE, HEAT's lawyer Kristi Ross
outlines eight areas of concern where
"the analysis was minimal, lacking
or incomplete," says Ross.
"One of the key concerns of HEAT
is fairness, ensuring thathe Huron
East residents are protected to the
same level as others in Ontario,"
says Ross.
She adds that since the Green En-
ergy Act regulations coming into ef-
fect are creating minimum setbacks
for wiu4 turbines and requirements
to'moriitor--infrasound to address cer-
tain health concerns - elements that
have never existed before - Huron
East residents want to make sure
the St. Columban wind projects meet
the new .requirements.
"There are a whole range of topic
areas where CASA is quite lacking
and the purpose of the elevation
request is to ensure that all the re-
quirements are there. Beyond that,
there's the concern that people are
treated equally between the two re-
gimes,"says Ross. requests
Ross says that for eleva-
tion are not unusual throughout On-
tario but admits'that they are rarely
granted by the MOE.
But, she says that what makes
HEAT's request unusual is that it's
happening at "an interesting time"
when new standards are suggest-
ed in draft regulations and the St.
Columban projects are not in compli-
ance with them.
For example, she says that CASA's
plans are to use a minimum setback
of 450 metres for wind turbines from
