Brussels Flying Club gets $15,000 grant to repaint airplane
Sue. n Uutldertmark
The 1968 182 Cessna airplane
owned by the Brussels Flying Club
got a new $15,000 paint job recently,
thanks to a grant from the Ontario
Trillium Foundation.
Al Murray, president of the Brus-
sels Flying Club, says that while the
plane hadn't been painted for the 40
years the club owned the plane, "it
was getting a little, rough looking."
Arid, because the club offers a ser-
vice to the community for anyone
who wants to go flying, it applied for
help with the repainting of the plane
needed.
"We keep the plane protected in a
hangar so the paint job should last
another 40 years," he says.
The Brussels Flying Club plane
was repainted at Sky Harbour Air-
craft in Goderich where it was first
stripped with an environmentally-
friendly chemical stripper, sanded
and repainted with its original
colours.
"This plane was well looked after.
Paint usually lasts around eight to
15 years so 40 years is
unusual," says Martina
Wellman, of Sky Har-
bour.
Wellman says that
while the original
colours were used,
modern paints that are
more . environmentally
friendly and which last
longer were used.
She says the paint
job also made the plane
look as close to the orig-
inal as possible with the
same design.
Murray says he's hop-
ing , the plane's new
paint will make the
plane more attractive to
members and perhaps
attract - more members
to join the flying club.
"We can always use
new pilots and we can
help train people to be-
come pilots," he says.
"The members think
it looks great," Murray
adds.
