After earning the fourth spot on
the Ontario junior girls' golf team,
Robyn Doig, 17, is competing in the
Canadian Junior Girls' golf tourna
ment in New Brunswick this week. ,
And, while he didn't know for sure
at press time last Friday, her brother
Paul, 14, was expecting to be golfing
in the Canadian Junior Boys' golf
tournament in Kitchener, Ont. at the
same time.
Robyn played in the Ontario Ju-
nior. Girls' championship in Trenton
earlier this summer during a rainy
three-day tournament.
While she shot 71 during the first
round, tying for second, the rain
hampered her game on the second
day, when she tied for fourth with a
79.
It rained so much on the third day
that the players sat in the clubhouse
from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. before get-
ting in three holes. And, at that point,
organizers decided to use the scores
from the first two days to decide the
winners.
Tied for fourth, Robyn had to shoot
a playoff hole on a day where thunder
and lightning were rolling around
the course.
"It was finally clearing around 6:30
p.m. so we ran out into the rain and
neither of us hit very well. We both
missed t' e green and had to chip,"
says Robyn.
While Robyn's ball landed four feet
away from the hole, her competitor's
was 20 feet away and she missed the
hole on her shot.
