Resident tells council that HEAT has not provided
•
proof wind turbines have health implications
A Seaforth woman has written to Hu •
ron East council expressing her sup-
port for wind energy projects.
Liz Mason told council she attended
both the council meeting when the in-
terim control bylaw was passed and
the public meeting held by Huron East
Against Turbines (BEAT) and conclud-
ed that "the citi-

zens' group was
\ not able to provide
substantial proof
one way or the oth-
er with regard to
supposed `health
implications' and/
or reduction in
property values."
Mason added
that she has at-
tended several lo-
cations worldwide with multiple wind
turbines and saw that property values
increased in those communities.
"I have stayed on wind farms and
spend a great deal of time at the wind
farms and suffered no negative health
affects, which is very different when
travelling down Highway 8 in the sum-
mertime and having my breath taken
away because of the `farmers' spread-
ing animal waste or in some cases, hu-
man waste on their fields," she said in
her letter.
Mason said she supports wind pow-
er and thinks people complaining of
health concerns could be referring to
pre-existing conditions "and certainly
are not proven to .be because of wind
turbines."
Mason said she wants council to look
at both sides of the issue and said she
doesn't think the issue has been debat-
ed enough publicly.
"I know I am not the only one that is
of this opinion and I am sure you have
heard from others," she said.
Mason, added that while her five-
year-old son suffers from autism and
epilepsy, both of which she thinks have
been triggered by environmental expo-
sures."
"However, I am not .out there de-
manding that factories be shut down
or farmers stop spreading human or
animal waste on
their fields or that
all food be `organic'
in nature or tak-
ing on the doctors
because they pre-
scribed medicine
or made me give
him vaccines as a
child," she said in
her letter.
Mason said she
believes the
benefits of wind
power outweigh
the risks and
