Meeting
will focus on rural healthcare
ments at rural hospitals and
services can be coordinated to
deal with shortages in human
resources.
She says the public consulta-
tion will help the LHIN as it
creates a blueprint and stra-
tegic plan -for the next three
years.
"The LHIN doesn't have any
plans to close any emergency
departments but it is creating
a framework to deal ` with the
human resources challenge so
there . may be an opportunity or
need for different models to ad-
dress that. We're talking about
coordinating services across
the system," she says.
"We are committed to hear-
ing what the community has to
say," she says.
The Seaforth meeting will
be held from 7 till 9 p.m., July
23, at the Seaforth and District
Community Centre, loc
ated at 122 Duke St.
Larry Adams, Chief Adminis-
trative Officer for Huron Coun-
ty, is encouraging county coun-
cillors to attend any one or all
of a series of information meet-
ings organized by the South
West Local Health Integration
Network (LHIN).
The meetings are designed to
allow the general public to give
its input into the organization's
long-term plans for its member
hospitals.
Two nearby sessions are set to
run from 7 p.m. till p.m., July
23, at the Seaforth and District
Community Centre, located at
122 Duke St., and Sept. 16, at
the Knights of Columbus Hall,
390 Parsons Court in Goder-
ich.
Adams noted the Huron
Perth Healthcare Alliance,
which recently announced op-
erations will be reviewed for its
member hospitals in Seaforth,
Clinton, Stratford and St.
Marys, will also soon be hold-
ing its own round of public -con-
sultation meetings on yet -to -be
announced dates.
Seaforth and area residents
are also being invited to share
their views about the future
directions of healthcare when
the South West Local Health
Integration Network (LHIN)
holds a meeting on July 23 in
Seaforth.
"We want to share informa-
tion about the- current health
trends and our thinking about
future directions," says Kelly
Gillis, a senior director of the
South West LHIN.
Gillis says the meeting will be
held in an open house format
with various stations detailing
various trends in healthcare,
including population, health
status and successes in health-
care.
Some of the trends to be dis-
cussed include the rise in mul-
tiple chronic disease, including
diabetes and the difficulties
patients have transitioning
through the healthcare sys-
tem.
Gillis says she expects the
public will be interested in the
status of emergency depart-
