Rick Bedard, director of clinical support services at Alexandra Ma- rine and General Hospital (AMGH) in Goderich has recently revealed that the tendering process has been successfully completed, and the re- sult came in within budget. "We're very pleased about the prog- ress so far; it's all great news," Be- dard said.. "The official award and signing of the contract will be com- pleted within two weeks. Following this, we'll be able to move ahead with construction." As soon as the ink dries on the successful contract, AMGH will move ahead with proj- ect architects Walter -- Fedy and the to -be - named construction company to establish project phasing. Be- dard said this will cre- ate a workable time- line for equipment arrival, installation and go live date. "CT Scanners are custom ordered, each one is built to individ- ual specifications. so the phasing is an important Q 110 te d `We're very pleased about the progress so far; it's all great Rick Bedard, director of clinical support services at AMGH project to align delivery dates," Bedard said. AMGH expects a groundbreaking cer- emony mid-July, with construction under- way before July's end, though Bedard ' added specific dates when the new equipment will be operational could not be confirmed until phasing is complete. Project architects in- vited eight pre -qualified contractors to enter their bid for the job. At present, Huron part of the is the only county in the province without a CT scanner — a distinction locals have been working diligently over the past five years to\shake. In August 2007, Ontario Minister of Health George Smitherman vis- ited Goderich and announced the province's approval of a scanner to operate at AMGH. After little more than two years, the county rallied together to raise $5 million for the CT Scanner Huron County campaign, one that funded a large part of the equipment purchase and installation costs. Now, the countdown is on as resi- dents can watch their dollars at work with each step closer to operation. "It's finally coming together!" Be- dard added.
