Make sun safety a new family rule
School's almost out for the
summer, and the Health
Unit is reminding families to
enjoy the sun safely.
Ultraviolet radiation, or
UV rays, from the sun cause
sunburns, skin cancer and
eye damage. Children are
most at risk because they
tend to spend more time
outdoors when the sun's rays
are strongest. So make sun
safety a new family rule!
Here's how you can
protect yourself and your
family this summer:
Time of Day: Limit time in
the sun when the UV index is
higher, usually between 11
a.m. and 3 p.m.
Shade: Seek shade or
make your own - bring an
umbrella.
Cover Up: Wear light-
weight clothing that covers
as much skin as possible.
Sunscreen: Choose an
approved broad-spectrum
sunscreen. Apply plenty of
sunscreen with SPF 30 or
more. Reapply often, espe-
cially after swimming or
sweating. Use a sunscreen
lip balm, too.
Sunglasses: Wear
close -fitting or wrap-around
sunglasses with UV 400 or
100% UV protection.
Do not use sunscreen on
babies less than six months
old. Protect them by keeping
them out of direct sunlight.
Seaforth BIA splashes the town in red and white

It's more of labour of love
than a labour.
Virtually every forward -
facing building on the main
drag of Seaforth is outfitted
with red and white and the
town's BIA strongly
believes there is not a place
in either Huron County or
the outskirts that will out-
shine their decorating
initiative.
Spearheading the compe-
tition, Maureen Agar, direc-
tor for the Seaforth BIA said
it's a simple set of rubrics -
the best cladded BIA mem-
ber's storefront to embody
Canada's 150th anniversary
of its Confederation will strut
away victorious.
Local customers have
been asked to vote on which
candidate they see as the
elite decorator to represent
their country.
Ballets can be dropped off
in the mailbox beside the
CIBC on Main Street in Sea -
forth at the information
booth, Agar said she has
already unloaded twice.
Holding the title of key
holder, she said roughly, 100-
150 people have already
voted; she also made it clear
that she is not budging a bit
on who is currently in the
lead.
Agar calls herself "neutral"
and it's a perfect fit for her,
since she is a member of the
BIA and does not own a local
business.
Even the votes are kept in
a "secret" hiding spot in her
house
The days are winding
down, June 29 at noon is the
deadline for the votes, and
from June 1 -30, all

Agar walked down Main
Street in an exclusive inter-
view with the Expositor last
Friday to embrace the trend
that's literally taken over the
thoroughfare by storm.
To really feel the effect, it's
something she said must be
observed up close and
personal.
,"I keep telling everybody,
walk up and down the street
because they have to stand
in front of the store to see
how wonderful some of
them are decorated," Agar
said while walking sporting
Canadian colours with a bag
to match her outfit.
"It blows your mind."
During the 30 -minute
interview on foot, maple
leafs, catchy sayings only
Canadians would know, lit-
tle flags and big flags,
stuffed mounted police
bears and numerous other
assemblage plastered the
street.
Agar walked into Reality
Executive Platinum Limited
to chat with the vice chair of
the Seaforth BIA, Melody
Hodgson and there was
nothing but positive conver-
sations concerning the
initiative.
Hodgson said she's driven
through numerous locales in
the last two weeks in Huron
County and Perth and she's
confident Seaforth is in the
lead for the Canadian -
themed civic area.
"I think it's really awesome
with how many people are
involved (in) decorating
their storefronts," she said
Last Friday. 'I think we are
the best -dressed main
street."
