DANGEROUS
DRIVER ARRESTED
(HURON EAST, Ont.) - It took a
couple weeks but Huron County
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
officers were able to catch up
to a suspect that led police on
a chase on Tuesday, May 23rd,
2017. On that date around
3:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers
attempted to stop the accused
driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo
eastbound out of Brussels on
Newry Road. Officers acti-
vated their emergency equip-
ment to stop the driver however
he failed to stop and fled from
police travelling southbound on
Cranbrook Road at a high rate
of speed. Police disengaged as
they watched the driver dan-
gerously sail through a stop
sign at the intersection of Cran-
brook Road and McDonald Line.
Officers knew the identity of
the driver so they success-
fully obtained a warrant for his
arrest and it wasp>t long before
the driver and police crossed
paths again. On June 8th, 2017
around 3:35 p.m. a Huron OPP
officer spotted the wanted
male in Brussels on Thomas
Street. He was spotted walk-
ing with an open canister of
beer. He was arrested and taken
into custody without incident.

Suspension and Fail to Com-
ply with Probation Order. He has

ASSAULTED AT
TRAFFIC STOP
(BLUEWATER, Ont.) - A 67 -year-
old from Bluewater is facing a
number of criminal and traffic
offences following a traffic stop
that took place earlier this week.
At approximately 3:21 p.m. on
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 a
Huron County Ontario Provin-
cial Police (OPP) officer observed
a Kubota Utility Vehicle (UTV)
travelling westbound on Short
Horn Road near Airport Line. The
officer watched as the driver
failed to stop for the stop sign
at the controlled intersection.
The officer activated his emer-
gency lights in an attempt to
stop the driver however the
driver continued to proceed
westbound and initially failed to
stop for the officer. The officer
was able to pull up along-
side the driver and eventu-
ally the driver pulled over.
The driver got out of his vehi-
cle and confronted the officer
by yelling and screaming at
the officer. Upon serving the
driver a ticket for the infrac-
tion of Disobey Stop Sign the
driver then picked up a large
rock and held it in a threat-
ening manner. The officer
ordered the driver to drop the
rock however the male threw
the rock at the officer and
struck him in the upper body.
Upon being struck the officer
utilized a conducted energy
weapon (CEW) to gain con-
trol of the accused and to
take him into custody. The
injured officer was later treated
at a local hospital for non-
life threatening injuries.

HURON
COUNTY OPP &
MCDONALD'S
POSITIVE
TICKETING
INITIATIVE
(HURON COUNTY, Ont.) - Dem-
onstrating positive behav-
ior and participating in ran-
dom acts of kindness is the
"cool" thing to do this summer.
Huron County Ontario Provin-
cial Police is proud to be part-
nering with the McDonald's
Restaurants in both Goder-
ich and Exeter for a "Posi-
tive Ticketing" initiative.
Huron OPP officers will be on the
lookout for youth that are demon-
strating positive behavior in their
community. A young child or teen
may receive a "positive ticket" from
an officer for a number of positive
behaviours such as helping oth-
ers in need, being leaders, follow-
ing the rules of the road, doing a
good deed and/or participating in
community activities. Officers may
also use the positive tickets as an
'icebreaker' to interact with youth.
Should a youth get "caught" they
may receive a "ticket" that can
be redeemed for an ice cream
cone at McDonald's Restaurants
located in Goderich & Exeter.
"We are thrilled to be working
together with the Huron County
OPP on this initiative. This is a
great way to help with bringing
a positive message to the kids
of Huron County. Have fun this
summer but please be safe"
- Rob Reid, Owner McDonald's
Restaurants Goderich & Exeter
"This initiative provides offic-
ers an excellent opportu-
nity to engage with youth in
a very positive way. Build-
ing relationships and con-
necting with our youth is
vitally important and thanks
to the generosity of McDon-
ald's we have another great
way to make it happen ".
- Huron OPP Detachment Com-
mander, Inspector Jason Younan
