Pete's Office Pro
celebrates 25 years
in business
Shaun Gregory
Huron Expositor
The 25 per cent off sale
that was advertised in last
week's Expositor coincides
perfectly with the trials and
tribulations that Pete's Office
Pro & P & "I' Fashions were
dealing with when they first
started out and where they
are now - a quarter century
later.
The 25th Anniversary Sale
illustrates the success expe-
rienced by owner, Peter Mar-
tene, with his downtown
business located at 51 Main
St S. In the photo are he and
his young family back in
1992 accompanied by a pre-
sent photo that shows every-
one grown up -what a change
and what a ride it's been.
The store was originally
situated on Main Street
where the local wine store is
located; Martene said he saw
a niche in the computer and
office supplies market, so he
quit his local arena job and
started his own business.
As well, through his own
research, he found out that
the Sears Agency was
"booming" at the time. Mar-
tene has recently decided to
axe that initiative on June 1.
Although the 55 -year-old
has maintained a steady liv-
ing wage, it was not always a
successful endeavour; most
businesses go through simi-
lar struggles in the beginning
stages.
"When I look back now, I
still have my books from 25
years ago and it was pretty
dismal back then,' he said in
a recent phone
conversation.
With no background in
computers, Martene admit-
ted to taking a chance, "I just
jumped in cold feet."
That brave leap has led
him on an almost three dec-
ade employment path and
he said last Thursday that
he's more than satisfied with,
seeing as he's not once had
to answer to a person in a
higher command.
Only time will tell where
his shop will be in the next
25 years.
At this present time, locals
can still purchase their office
and computer supplies at
the back while as always, the
front of the store has an
assortment of women's
clothing.
Last Friday along with the
limited time offer of a 25 per
cent sale to mark the anni-
versary celebration, Martene
said he held a barbeque and
donated roughly $500 to the
local foodbank from the pro-
ceeds collected at the feast.
Seaforth Scouts receive $1,000
from Seaforth Lions
First Seaforth Scouts and their leaders were at the Seaforth Lions Park on Monday night
to receive a $1000 donation from Seaforth Lions Club president Bryan Vincent and vice-
president Dave Harper. The Scouts and their leaders are heading to New Brunswick in July
for a Canada -wide Jamboree and the donation will be used to help fund their trip. The
Seaforth Lions Club are sponsors of the First Seaforth Scouts.
