The St. Anne's drama department is
the lucky recipient of $5000.
70 applications across Ontario were
submitted to a competition put on by
OTIP (Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan).
To apply, a St. Anne's drama class
with teacher Crystal Brennan Yeo made
a short video outlining why they'd like
the funding.
There were only four prizewinners, and
they were chosen by a draw. St. Anne's
was one of the lucky schools drawn.
"We actually just created the program
this year," said Patricia Wilkinson-Bizjak,
OTIP's Director of Corporate Affairs and
Communications. "It's really looking at
supporting teacher and educator led initia-
tiveswithin schools that support education
and provide an enriched environment"
She said since it's their first year, they
did a draw, but in future years they'd like
to put the submissions online and have
voting.
St. Anne's will put the money towards
Elizabethan costumes since they plan to
put on A Midsummer Night's Dream in
the near future and for future plays. They
are also going to purchase costumes for
Remembrance Day skits which they lead
at the school. The third purchase will be
four headset mics.
