ARSON IS
THE CAUSE
OF FIRE FOR
SNOWMOBILE
CLUBHOUSE
(HURON EAST, Ont.) - Huron
County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers includ-
ing investigators from the
Huron OPP Crime Unit con-
tinue to investigate an arson
that destroyed a snowmo-
bile shack located off of Car-
diff Road in Huron East.
Just before 8:30 p.m. on May
20, Huron OPP officers and
firefighters from Grey Town-
ship Fire responded to the
crime scene to locate a snow-
mobile shack fully engulfed in
flames. Fire crews were able
to extinguish the fire how-
ever the building was deemed
to be a complete loss.
The 20' X 35' shack is
regularly used as a club-
house by snowmobilers. The
structure was valued at
approximately $20,000.
Witnesses observed a large
group of ATV's in the area
just prior to the fire. Inves-
tigators believe the cause
of the fire to be arson.

MONEY
SEMINAR
(HURON COUNTY, Ont.) - In an
effort to educate and protect
local retailers from losses sus-
tained from counterfeit cur-
rency Huron County Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP) & Libro
Credit Union will be host-
ing an upcoming "Counter-
feit Money & Fraud Seminar".
Just five months into 2017
and Huron OPP has already
investigated 22 cases where
counterfeit money has been
passed onto retailers and
banking institutions. Denomi-
nations of these counter-
feit bills have ranged from
$5 to $100 in both US dollars
and Canadian dollars. Four of
these investigations have been
cleared by way of charges.
The sigr ficant rise in the num-
ber of counterfeit currency
investigations from previous
years has prompted Huron
OPP to organize an educational
seminar led by subject mat-
ter experts from the Bank of
Canada and the Royal Cana-
dian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Anyone that handles money
on a regular basis is encour-
aged to attend the semi-
nar scheduled for:
Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at
the Libro Community Hall,
239 Bill Fleming Drive, Clin-

For those that are una-
ble to attend, the follow-
ing advice is provided:
if you have been offered
a counterfeit note dur-
ing a transaction, assess
the situation to ensure you
are not at risk, then:
•Politely refuse the note and
explain that you suspect
that it may be counterfeit
•Ask for another note
(and check it too)

possession of the bill could be
an innocent victim who does
not realize that the note is sus-

BEER HEIST
(EXETER, ON) - Some local ball
players from Exeter are out
over a thousand dollars worth
of beer and hamburger pat-
ties following a theft took place
over the weekend in Exeter.
Huron County OPP was noti-
fied of the theft on Sun-
day, May 2. Police learned
a local baseball team was
running a baseball tourna-
ment over the weekend at the
South Huron Recreation Cen-
tre in an effort to raise funds

After the beer gardens closed
for the evening on Satur-
day the supplies were stored
away in a locked storage
trailer. Upon checking the
trailer the following morn-
ing the players noticed the
trailer lock was missing and
the trailer had been emptied.
In total, about (30) 28 -pack
sized cases of Bud Light bot-
tles were stolen along with
two bottles of rum, one bot-
tle of vodka and several
pounds of hamburger patties.
Police believe the theft took
place sometime between
2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on
Sunday, May 28th. Two sus-
picious males were seen
in the area around that
time. One of the males was
walking with crutches.

THEFT FROM
MOTOR VEHICLES
(CENTRAL HURON & SOUTH
HURON, Ont.) - Huron County
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
officers are currently investi-
gating some thefts from motor
vehicles that have taken place
in both Clinton and Huron Park.
Over the last week and a
half four cases have been
reported to Huron OPP.
•Sometime between May
20th, 2017 and May 22nd,
2017 someone entered into an
unlocked sports utility vehicle
that was parked on High Street
in Clinton. The suspect stole a
Tight grey computer bag and
a Douglas agricultural build-
ing cost guidebook. In total
the items are valued at $490.
•Sometime between 9:00 p.m.
on May 26th and 10:00 a.m.
on May 27th, 2017 someone
entered into a minivan that
was parked on Dunlop Street
in Clinton. The suspect stole
a wallet that contained iden-
tification and credit cards. In
addition, a Huawei Y6 mobile
phone was stolen. The sus-
pect then made several pur-
chases with the stolen credit
cards. The same night a second
vehicle owner on Dunlop Street
reported his unlocked vehicle
was entered and some change
and a lottery ticket were stolen.
•Sometime ovemight between
9:00 p.m. on May 26th and
7:30 a.m. on May 27th some-
one entered into an unlocked
Ford F-150 pickup truck
that was parked on Colum-
bia Drive in Huron Park. The
thief stole an envelope from
the center console that con-
tained nearly $1,000 in cash.
Vehicle owners are reminded
of the saying, "Lock it or Lose
It." Please remember to always
secure your vehicle, remove
your ignition key and any valu-
ables from your vehicle. Should
you see suspicious activity in
your neighbourhood please
immediately contact police.

BASEBALL
JERSEYS STOLEN
(SOUTH HURON, Ont) - Huron
County Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) officers are currently inves-
tigating a break, enter and theft
that took place this past week
in Exeter. Police believe the
alleged thief entered into a Huron
Street West residence some-
time between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00
p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2017
or between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00
p.m. on Monday, May 29th.
Once inside the residence
the thief located and stole a
PlayStation 4 game console
and two autographed major
league baseball jerseys. One
being a LA Angels "Trout" jer-
sey and the other a Kansas
City Royals "Romak" jersey.
The total value of the stolen
goods is estimated at $1,000.
