Seaforth and District Optimist Club members used numerous apparatuses to help the rubber ducks
coast to the finish line last Saturday.
Locals purchased all the 500 ducks available for the Seaforth and District Optimist Club Rubber
Duck Race May 13.
All 500 ducks floated to the finish line

They were tossed over the
ledge of the dam and down
Silver Creek the numbered
rubber ducks went.
Since the Seaforth Lions
Annual Children's Trout
Derby was rescheduled due
to the threat of floods, it fell
on the exact same date as
the annual Seaforth and
District Optimist Club Rub-
ber Duck Race - May 13;
respecting that some locals
were still fishing, the con-
test shifted down the
stream from their usual
take -off pad.
Decked out with fishing
nets, some dressed in waist -
waders, rubber boots,
equipped with rakes, or a
hockey stick, Optimist Club
members directed the ducks
on a path to the finish line.
The first duck to reach the
end receives $500, the sec-
ond is rewarded with $250,
third is given $100 while a
mystery duck, which is usu-
ally picked out of the middle
is paid $50.
It was a sellout, all 500
available ducks were pur-
chased by locals for 5$ for the
Seaforth and District Opti-
mist Club Rubber Duck Race.
It was a larger turnout
than the previous year stated
Seaforth Optimist Club, vice
president, Bob Dinsmore,
seeing how then the organi-
zation had to remove a cou-
ple ducks from the pile.
First launched in May of
2009, the event began to
raise money for the purpose
of being put towards repairs,
maintenance, and the over-
all development of the Sea -
forth Optimist Club Park.
"We are hoping to do
some work on the play-
ground," said Dinsmore.
This year they expect their
improvements to include a
sidewalk and swings for
youngsters.
"We don't make a lot of
money," after giving away
prizes and the cost of tickets,
