Escaping the chaos in their
home country, the Syrian refu-
gees are now living safe in their
Egmondville home and fitting
in well by amalgamating in
Canadian society.
"They don't miss the bombs,
it was nerve-racking, it was not
safe," stated Willi Laurie from
the Brucefield Community
United Church in the Clinton
News Record office March 17,
her church along with
Egmondville United Church,
Vanastra Community Christian
Reformed Church and Clinton
United Church are part of the
joint venture now called the
Tuckersmith Resettlement
Project.
"They miss their family, but
they don't miss that
atmosphere"
Arriving in Canada Septem-
ber 19, Sharif Al Nassad and
Abeer Allias and their two chil-
dren George, Joseph, and
Abeer's mother were invited to
a fully furnished house with
fresh water and a fridge filled
. with food.
To take care of their expenses
for food, rent and everyday liv-
ing necessities, the four
churches raised roughly

Sponsorship roup.
The half-year mark has
passed and they've trans-
formed from five former Syrian
civilians out of the five million
fleeing the war -stricken country
to contributing ratepayers of the
municipality of Huron Fast.
General Coach currently
employs Al Nassad in 1 lerisall,
Ont. where the experienced
tradesman builds trailers.
"We heard they were hiring
people and that they had a
record of hiring people that are
refugees," stated Laurie.
Previously in charge of run-
ning a factory back home, Lau-
rie said Al Nassad is rather
familiar with this style of work
and is "comfortable" with his
new positioIl.
Though Nassad has already
found a way to provide for his
family, Laurie is certain his wife
Allias will have no troubles find-
ing a job opportunity.
Allias comes to Canada with
a university degree in educa-
tion, before the life -changing
retreat, she was teaching, Laurie
expects her to signs up for col-
lege in September for early
childhood education.
The oldest boy George is

This coming summer both
boys s will showcase their skills
on the soccer field as the two
are registered in the area's local
league.
The family as a whole is
sharpening their English daily,
the elderly mother is having
some difficulties, but Laurie
believes as time progresses she
will catch on.
This September, the family
will no longer be taken care of
financially, however Laurie is
confident they will be sufficient
enough to take care of
themselves.
As the months wind down to
their departure from being
looked after, Laurie said life for
the Syrian's would be cosier,
especially since an unknown
person donated them a 2007
Ford Escape.
"That gives them a lot of
independence and it's taking a
lot off the community's shoul-
ders," said Laurie.
Laurie ended with saying it's,
"going to be impossible to let
them go"
But she said if they have
questions or issues, "they know
they have us as support"
