Seaforth store owner tells story of 16 -year

interested had the option to handpick
which person they'd like to sponsor -Trina
hadn't the slightest clue this choice would
lead to an epoch of new friendship.
The majority of people were walking
away with pictures of "cute little kids,"
but the owner ofCotton I larvest Quilt
Shop in Seaforth, Trina 0' Rourke said
she wanted a connection with some-
one old enough to keep in contact with.
It was either the teenager or an
elderly gentleman.
"I ultimately decided on taking Vin-
cent as I figured he'd be more inclined
to write me letters," stated 0' Rourke,
50, March 4. "And I was right, he is flu-
ent in four languages."
Part of the Chalice charity, an initia-
tive supporting developing countries,
the funds donated by0' Rourke subse-
quently went to Vincent's education.
That was 16 years ago and 0' Rourke
said the two have kept in close contact
off and on ever since.
When they first connected through
letters in a pen pal companionship, it
was always aknown fact that both par-
ties were restricted from exchanging
addresses or phone numbers.
Though those guidelines didn't stop

from Kenya. The owner of Cotton Harvest
Quilt Shop in Seaforth, Trina 0' Rourke
sponsored him 16 years ago through a
charity initiative to further his education. -
They met in person for the first earlier this
month.

program."
