Dr. van Maanen is working Wednesdays and Thursdays, continuing her employment part-time at tie main strip office. "Don't worry, I will not be going quite yet, while I'll be reducing my hours," Dr. van Maanen stated in a two page document she provided to the com- munity. "1 wish to person- ally thank you for the confi- dence that you have shown me and wish you all the best in the future." Following in foot steps that provide service to more than 1700 clients; Dr. San- jeev Jaswal has been passed the torch. He is figuratively running with it, however he plans to keep it right here; the mar- ried man with two children is keeping the flame ignited in Seaforth as long as possible. Hailing from a long list of dental credentials, Sanjeev brings numerous years of experience to town. The native of India had been practicing in the field of ,den- tistry for two decades before migrating to Canada. Upon moving here, San- jeev had two options, either join a licensing program or enrol into school. He chose the education route where he completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Western. Living in the apartment above Tulips Dental Centre, Sanjeev said as time progresses he sees his family staying here permanently and purchasing a douse in the area. "1 always wanted to work in a small town," Sanjeev said March 7 in the front entrance of the Tulips Dental Centre. "1 grew up in the countryside back home in India." Ile admitted to not being fond of the city life. Sanjeev is currently also working in Burlington Ont., commuting four hours a day there three days a week. Both jobs are demanding but he said this is his passion Second budget draft --Public Works facing cuts and two councillors want overall increase down to 5 per cent Shaun Gregory Huron Expositor The second budget draft was pre- sented for discussion at Huron East council and Public Works is forecasting a much better year than the last in terms of funding although they are still expecting to face cuts. In 2016, Public Works were forced to put the brakes on several construction projects, roughly $2 million, said Huron East's treasurer/ finance manager, Paula Michiels. This year however, the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) which is meant for "top ups" has granted Huron East $800,000. During a council meeting March 7, Tuckersmith Coun, Larry McGrath called the lump sum of money offered by the province an attempt by the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne to keep her political presence afloat. This money is being put towards the Winnipeg Street, Toronto Boulevard, and Regina Road construction projects in Vanastra. This includes the roads, sewers and storm drains which Michiels estimates will cost in the neighbourhood of $2 million. The downfall is the 2005 backhoe has once again been cut out of the budget; instead of the direction of buying a new machine, council has requested Public Works to repair it for roughly $19,000. Though several councillors were in favour of the cut, Brussels ward representative; David Blaney played the role of "devil's advocate" "If you are going to put that amount of money in, it could still fall apart next year," he told council. "You're gambling by buying (a) lottery ticket and hoping you get a winner." 66 trand. "We are not challenging our- selves at all." Blaney considers government upsurges, as "arbitrary" numbers and says the County of Huron is part of the reason that Huron East is sitting at a 6.09 overall increase. If we are that close to getting it down to fiver cent, don't know why we can't do that, whether it's the (Grey) fire hall or some other ideas," stated Tuckersmith Coun. Ray Chartrand. "We are not challenging ourselves at all." He went on to say that this move would lose the "core competencies" of the Public Works department. Referring back to the (OCIF), Blaney said the province does not hand out large amounts of funds habitually, so they should, "get a grip on it." Seaforth Coun. Bob Fisher and Tuck- ersmith Coun. Ray Chartrand requested that the overall increase of 6.09 per cent be brought down to five per cent. "If we are that close to getting it down to five per cent, I don't know why we can't do that, whether it's the (Grey) fire hall or some other ideas," stated Char - "For years lower tier municipalities have been asked to cover the County because the County needed to bring its budget down," he said. Council has requested the municipal levy increase of 5.86 per cent be brought down to five per cent. In addition to the backhoe being axed, along with the added repairs and a few adjustments and funds from reserves, Michiels is confident this demand can be accomplished. The 2017 budget process is close to completion; the final meeting is set to coincide with the April 4 council meeting.
