Blyth's Memorial Hall is
well into their renovations of
$4,127,000.
Renovations on the hall
started last fall and will be
completed by the end of
April for the 2017 season.
The renovations are
spearheaded by the Blyth
Arts and Cultural Initiative
14/19 Inc. The project is
being funded by provincial
and federal grants as well
as locally fundraised dol-
lars (including the Legion
and Legion Ladies Auxil-
iary) and $500,000 from
North Huron.
Funds are also being col-
lected through a seat sale
which is ongoing; each seat
in the theatre is available to
be sponsored by an individ-
ual to have their name on a
seat.
There are countless
improvements being done
to the building. Those
include an extended and
improved lobby, new sound
and lighting equipment,
redone bathrooms, in -floor
heating in the lower level
and courtyard, a new
kitchen, new HVAC,
improved balcony, new
seats and more.
Almost everything is

being redone. It will be a
very different looking
building when it is done,
although North Huron
Director of Recreation and
Facilities Pat Newson
pointed out that "the char-
acter of the building will be
kept."
"We've thought about
every single problem this
building had and addressed
it and moved it to the next
level," said Newson.
Newson pointed out that
every old building reaches
the end of its life cycle
every 40 or 50 years, and at
that point, the options are
to tear it down or gut and
restore it.
"This is obviously not
something we would
never want to tear down,
so we've been able to
restore it, and the commu-
nity has been able to
restore it."
