Seaforth and District Horticultural Society kicking off new season Spring will officially be here on March 20, but with the record setting warm tempera- tures, robins chirping and sight- ing ighting of the swans returning, we are all wondering if it has per- haps arrived just a little earlieL Seaforth Horticultural Society members will kickoff their new gardening season on Wednesday, March 8 with a Potluck Dinner at 6:0o pm; guest speaker, Lynn Godkin, Huron IPM 2017, at 7:30 p.m. and general meeting to fol- low at Northside United Church basement. All are welcome to attend. Annual membership cost is $10. They had lots of exciting speakers and presentations for our 2016 season including Dr. Jeremy McNeil, Monarch Butterflies; Karin McDougall, Black Creek Flower Farm; Susanne Rob- inson, Robinson's Maple Products; Liz and Chris Mal- icki, New Zealand trip; Den- ise Huck, Colour Paradise Greenhouses; Chris and Pam Bowers, Camino de Santiago hike. In July, members hopped on a bus and travelled to the amazing Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton. August's garden tours included a guided historical stroll down Bayfield's main street along with a tour of a few enchanting private gar- dens in Bayfield. As the 2016 season came to an end in November, it was celebrated with a delicious turkey dinner served at the Annual Banquet. Nancy Abra took the group on an inspira- tional tour of the Common- wealth War Graves in Belgium & France. Many amazing pic- tures, taken by members, were on display as part of the 2016 Photo Contest. The 2016 Photo Contest Winners were first, Ken Papple, second, Carol Bennewies and third, Dianne Wood. Their website www.sea- forthdhs.org has more pic- tures and information on what the group has been busy doing over: the past years. The 2017 Events Cal- endar will be posted soon. Huron County Federation of Agriculture meets with local politicians Justine Alkema Postmedia Network The annual MP/MPP/ Local Politician Forum hosted by the Huron County Federation of Agriculture (HCFA) was -on Friday, Feb- ruary 24 at the Clinton Legion. The four-hour meeting and lunch gave the opportu- nity for representatives from various commodity groups in Huron County to give short presentations on cur- rent issues related to their respective groups. As the name implies, MP Ben Lobb, MPP Lisa Thomp- son and other local politicians were present at the meeting. HCFA President Erica Murray was also present, and explained that the meeting is to give "everyone the opportu- nity to exchange ideas and gain a better insight into some of the topics that have an impact on agriculture in Huron County." Groups presenting were the HCFA Property/Land Use Committee, Huron County Beef Producers, Ontario Sheet Marketing Agency, I ICFA Farm Finance Committee, Huron County Egg Farmers, Grain Farmers of Ontario, Huron County Pork Producers, Huron County Diary Producers, HCFA Public Relations Com- mittee, MP Ben Lobb and Pictured here is the round a table discussion at the Clinton Legion on Friday, February 24.
