HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2017-02-15, Page 9Wednesday, February 15, 2017 • Huron Expositor 9 foto-POLICE BRIEFS VICTIM STABBED IN SEAFORTH ROBBERY (HURON EAST, Ont.) - The Huron County Ontario Provi cial P9Iice (OPP) Crime unit currently investigating a rob- bery that took place in Sea - forth this past weekend. Investigators commenced an investigation after receiving infor- mation that a 36 -year-old male had been stabbed in a robbery that took place early in the mom- ing on Saturday, February 4. The investigation has revealed that sometime between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. the victim was walking on Goderich Street West near Church Street when he encountered three males out on the street comer involved in an apparent argument. Two of the males left heading north on Church Street however one of the males remained behind. The male that remained behind approached the victim and demanded money from the vic- tim. The victim complied and handed over a small quantity of cash to assailant. At that point the suspect stabbed the victim in the shoulder and immediately took off running north on Church Street. Later that night the vic- tim attended the hospi- tal where he was treated and released with a minor injury. The suspect is described as being: • A male, approximately 5'9" in height, with a thin to medium build weighing around 150 lbs. • He has blonde, shoul- der length hair. • He was last seen wear- ing a grey hoody, black jeans and white running shoes. • The lower portion of his face was covered with a black & white "skull style" mask. CHEVROLET SILVERADO STOLEN (MORRIS-TURNBERRY, Ont.) — Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are seek- ing information from the pub - in relation to a recent theft (of a pickup truck stolen from a residence located on Mafy Street just west of Wingham. The owner reported the pickup truck was stolen sometime between 12:00 p.m. on Feb- ruary 3, 2017 and 7:00 a.m. on February 4, 2017. The unlocked pickup truck was sto- len from the laneway residence. The pickup is described as a 2001 white Chevrolet Sil- verado 1500 series, 4x4 model with a crew cab. This pickup is equipped with a front push bar and a silver coloured back rack. Any person with informa- tion regarding this incident should immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310- 1122 or (519) 524-8314. BUICK ALLURE STOLEN (MORRIS-TURNBERRY, Ont.) — Huron County OPP officers are investigating the recent theft of a Buick Allure stolen from a resi- dence located on London Road south of Wingham. The vehicle had been parked in a laneway adja- cent to the residence prior to the theft. Police believe the theft occurred some- time between 11:00 p.m. on February 7 and 1:00 a.m. on February 8, 2017. The stolen vehi- cle is described as: • A tan, 2005 Buick Allure, 4 -door model with tinted windows, a tow hitch and winter tires & rims. FEMALE DRIVER FACING IMPAIRED BY DRUG CHARGE (HURON EAST, Ont.) — This past week started off rather poorly for one female driver from Huron County. Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Mon- day, February 6, Huron County OPP received infor- mation about a possi- ble impaired driver stuck in a ditch on Morrison Line near Rodgerviile Road. A short while later the inves- tigating officer arrived on scene and located a Chev- rolet Malibu stuck in the ditch. Upon speaking with the female driver the inves- tigating officer observed signs that led the officer to believe she was impaired by a drug. As a result, the driver was arrested and then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) evaluated the driver and formed the opinion the driver was impaired by a drug. As a result, the driver, a 43 -year-old female from Hen- sall has been charged with Impaired Operation by Drug. She has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 30, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Jus- tice — Exeter. Her motor vehi- cle has been impounded and she also received an automatic 90 -day driv- er's licence suspension. IMPAIRED DRIVER PICKUP TRUCK (HURON EAST, Ont) — A " DITCHES 21 -year-old male driver from Hensall has been charged with Impaired Driving & Over 80 following a crash that took place during the early morn- ing hours of February 4. At approximately 2:52 a.m. Huron County Ontario Pro- vincial Police (OPP) officers received information about a pickup truck in the ditch on Morrison Line. Min- utes later a Huron County OPP officer responded to the scene located on Mor- rison Line just north of Hen- sall Road. Upon arrival the investigating officer observed vehicle tracks that indi- cated the pickup truck was travelling northbound when it left the roadway, drove into the ditch and then became stuck in a field. Upon checking out the vehi- cle the investigating officer located a male sleep- ing in the driver's seat. The officer was able to rouse the sleeping male and at that point the officer made some observations that led him to believe the driver was impaired by alcohol. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was then trans- ported to the Lucan OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Techni- cian; both of his samples reg- istered over the legal limit. A 21 -year-old from Hensall has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alco- hol. He has been released from custody with a court appear- ance scheduled for March 13, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice — Goderich. He also received an automatic 90 -day driver's licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. The Town of Goderich is a partner with the Municipalities of Central Huron and Huron East and continues to consider a public transfer facility and recycling drop-off at the Mid -Huron Site. The Town of Goderich is also preparing to provide a similar facility, if required, or as determined by Goderich Town Council, in the Town's Industrial Park on Parson's Court in southeast Goderich. The facility would provide bins for the following materials: white goods, shingles, steel, wood, tires, blue box materials, cardboard, leaf and yard waste, electrical and electronic equipment, construction materials and supplemental residual residential waste, including large household waste items. Curbside waste collection and recycling will continue and the possibility of a hazardous waste depot at the facility will be given future consideration.
