s the routine cold air
sanctified Seaforth's
stratosphere on Mon-
day morning, from the inte-
rior of the Expositor office, a
void lingered.
Our small local newspaper
space of roughly 35 feet by 10
feet space will quite frankly
never be the same.
From the times when
reporters, editors and pho-
tographers congested this
municipality, (way before
online journalism took
over), some forty years ago
when cigarettes were not
frowned upon in the work-
place and cars were made of
steel - this was the era that
Dianne McGrath was fresh
out of high school. This was
the way the landscape
looked back when Dianne
joined this local newsprint
team.
She's seen it all; she often
tells me in anecdotes like,
"we had to carve the paper in
Column
Shaun Gregory
stone" back when she first
began her career, one that
would last four decades.
-The last of a dwindling
breed for the Expositor.
We went from dozens to
three employees, the paper
now consist of a sales rep, a
secretary and a multimedia
journalist.
Sadly, since last Friday
there are only two of us and
I'm not going to lie, this
paper is going to deeply miss
Dianne. "I'm riding off in the
sunset," is what she told me
when I first heard of her
letter to the editor
Save lives, donate blood
To the editor:
On behalf of the Canadian
Blood Services I am asking for
your help. We have another
clinic on Monday February 14,
which is one week before Family
Day and the day before Valen-
tine's Day. I would like to ask
that you consider coming to
donate blood with your family.
Your family may include your
children, parents, brother, sister,
best friend, your neighbour or
whoever you consider your fam-
ily. Your family can help another
family. There are times when the
blood supply isn't large enough
to last more than a few days.
They depend on volunteers to
take an hour out of their day to
help a patient that you will never
know but who is eternally grate-
ful you did. Donate with some-
one you love.
Please take a moment to call
1-888-2Donate, download the
blood donor app or go to blood.
ca to book an appointment. For
those who can't commit to a
time yet, you can drop in but
please consider doing that over
the supper hour but be prepared
to wait and visit with a friend.
Donors need to be 17 years of
age and remember to bring
photo identification with you if
this is your first time. If you have
any questions around your eligi-
bility to donate please call and
speak to a nurse. The Canadian
Blood Services strive for a qual-
ity product to give to those who
need it and we need you to do
your part. I hope to see you
there.

retirement.
I responded laughing,
"Dianne you live in Egmond-
ville, how far can you go?"
Though she may have jokes
for days, a lot of people don't
have a clue how much she
contributes to this
organization.
Every Monday our paper is
due for the layout team, this
is when they send the paper
back through a PDF, for all
you old timers, this is a spe-
cific file format on the com-
puter where an electronic
image that looks like a
printed document is sent to
us. It's pretty much what the
paper will look like once it's
printed.
Here's just one example of
how Dianne consistently
went above and beyond.
When I was first hired to
this position, Dianne real-
ized I was having a little bit
of trouble with my edits.
She went out of her way and
told me she would be more
than willing to give the
paper a gander. After a few
corrections here and there, I
said, "how the heck does
this secretary know so much
about writing?" I have been
working here for almost two
years and Dianne has been
helping me with this pro-
cess evertsince. Even our
sales rep asks Dianne her
opinion on advertisernent
pieces.
That's Dianne, she's not
getting paid extra for that,
and she just does it because
she cares.
I just wanted to say from
the bottom of my heart,
thank you Dianne.
Signing out from the empty
office that will indeed never
run the same as it used to;
Shaun AKA, the guy who
doesn't just consider Dianne
a co-worker, but also a friend.
Have a great retirement; you
deserve it.
