Correspondence 1 Fiower show scheduled for June 27 The Seaforth and District Horticul- tural Society met at Northside United Church on June 10 at 7:30 p.m. Heather McLean introduced speak- er; Karin McDougall of Black Creek Flower Farm who gave a very interest- ing presentation and slide show on the growing and marketing of gladiolus. She inspired members to .try some of the very beautiful varieties and colours that are now available. Ruth Smith opened the meeting and the minutes of the May meeting were read by Marilyn Norman. A correction to the May minutes is that the Seaforth Fair ambassador po- sition is open to both young men and young women. Ruth mentioned that the new bro- chure is not ready yet so was not avail- able for display at the Information Booth on ` June 6 when the town -wide garage sale was held. David Norman gave the treasurer's report which includes $1,430 from bus tour sales to be held in the account until the bus company requires pay- ment. Ruth had booklets available on the use of rain barrels and it was men- tioned' that they are available at the Winthrop store for $36. Civic Improvement member, Dick De Jong, said that all the hanging bas- kets, planter boxes and gardens have now been cared for and planted for the season. Thanks go to those members who work so hard around our town to keep it looking beautiful. Elly Schoonderwoerd and Ruth Smith attended the District 8 meeting in Markdale on May 30 and Elly gave an interesting and comprehensive re- port. Heather McLean reported ori the bus trip which is now sold out and there is a waiting list. Participants will meet at 7:25 a.m. at Victoria Park on July 15. Heather also advised members that a garden tour in Goderich has been ar- ranged. This is to be held on Wednes- day, Aug. 12. We will meet at the church at 6 p.m. Ruth Smith reported on upcoming events, which include a Goderich Hor- ticultural Society flower show in the Zehrs parking lot on June 27 and a garden tour on Aug. 18. At Hensall Unit- ed Church ser- vice began with welcome and announcements and the pass- ing of the peace. Bruce Whitmore was the minister, his message was "For Better and Better". Jamie Eisler was the organist. Service closed with bene- diction and cho- ral amen. At Carmel Pres- byterian Church the . service began with welcome and announcements. Joyce Pepper was the organist for the ministry of song. Rev Susan Moore, minister of Bayfield Presbyterian Church conducted communion. Helping with the service were Robert Bell, Al Hoggarth, and Harry Moir. Service ended with prayer and benediction.
