Public meeting will hear firsthand the impact of turbines
From Page 5
too late.
People are working hard to try to
stop the provincial government now.
If you are concerned, your support
is needed.
I am pretty sure that if you found
out there was going to be a wind
turbine built 500 metres or even
2,000 metres from your home, you
would want as much information as
possible on how it will affect your
family.
I encourage you to come to the
public information meeting, on
Thursday, June 18 at 8 p.m, at the
Seaforth Community Centre. This
will allow you to hear firsthand the
impact these turbines are already
having on people in Ontario and lis-
ten to the experts.
The World Health Organization
(WHO) has recommended wind tur-
bine setbacks of 1,500 metres to pre-
vent health concerns. Why should
the citizens in Huron County de-
serve any less? The turbines would
not be able to go up in our area if
they followed the WHO guidelines.

Effect of wind turbines on swans, people downplayed
To the Editor,
I am writing in reply of what was
written in your article on the "wind
turbine" in the St. Columban area.
First of all thanks to the residents
from the surrounding town of Ripley
and the citizens of Ashfield Town-
ship forr sharing their horror stories
on their experiences from the wind
turbines. They remind me of jour-
nalists who cover a war - only this
war is in our own backyard.
Mr. Menendez I have found to
have a very smooth way of down
playing questions that were asked
especially about the tundra swans
congregating in a pond within me-
tres of where two turbines are to be
located.
He blames it on a plugged tile -
well, that farm ponds up after any
huge rainfall and especially in the
spring of the year. The tile is not
plugged, the farm grows a good
crop.
The fact is there are close to 460
acres upstream emptying into this
low area which has very little fall to
take it away. The swans land there
for about two weeks in March for
as long as I can remember and will
continue forever, like all migrating
birds do.
Now that we got your attention
Jose on the swans - what about the
effect on humans or are we not as
important?
I compare the wind turbines to the
taser gun - they both use electricity,
they both effect the lives of humans
and both can kill or be harmed from
them.
Both you and our government are
just standing by, basically experi-
menting with each and every one
living within the 450 to 1000 metre
setback, have you no sense of re-
sponsibility?
May I suggest to you to change
your companies name from "CASA"
to the all new name of "So What." It
would eliminate a lot of your double
talk, if you know what I mean.
Sincerely,
Jim Shea,

Local man tries to evade RIDE checkpoint
A 42 -year-old Huron East
man has been charged with
impaired care and control af-
ter police observed his vehicle
evading a RIDE checkpoint on Huron Road in
Central Huron on June 12 at 2 a.m.
Huron OPP report that officers saw a speed-
ing vehicle coming from Goderich eastbound
towards the Central Huron RIDE checkpoint
which braked hard and turned south into a
private residence before entering the check-
Hh11'() i OPP
point.
Officers located the vehi-
cle parked behind a residence
with the lights on but the engine
off. Upon approaching the vehicle, a lone male
was located in the vehicle sitting in the pas-
senger seat. He appeared to be sleeping. The
male denied driving..
The man was arrested and taken to the Hu-
ron Detachment where he was found to have
over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his sys-
tem with a breathalyzer.
The man is scheduled to attend
court in Goderich on Aug. 10.
A 50 -year-old Central Huron
man was charged with driving with
over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his
system after he was stopped by
police on Moncrieff Road in Huron
East on May 30 at approximately
10 p.m.
A Huron OPP officer was patrol-
ling when he observed an eastbound
vehicle traveling at a slow rate of
speed. The officer stoped the ve-
hicle, detected the odour of alcohol
on the driver's breath and saw open
liquor in the vehicle.
