"The concerns outweigh the calls of support," she said. Mitchell said wind projects, 300 of which are already located in the rid- ing of Huron -Bruce, are necessary to. clean up the environment. "Is there support for it? There is,". she said. Mitchell said it's important not to confuse health concerns with health problems. • "I think we can go forward. Sure, they're raising concerns and we have to deal with the concerns as they come up," she said. She said that there is a wind tur- THIS IS OUR GIGANTIC, SPECTACULAR, INCREDIBLE, COLOSSAL SALE WITH THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE LOW PRICES DURING OUR ANNUAL INVENTORY CLEARANCE, WHICH WE'VE SIMPLY CALLED: bine in downtown Toronto with talk of installing more there but no one has been forced to move from their homes in Toronto because of health :problems related to wind turbines. Mitchell said Dr. Robert McMurtry, who recommended an epidemiologi- cal study of health concerns related to wind turbines, only, did a survey to come up with his findings, not a study that was peer-reviewed. However, she pointed to a study done by the medical officer of health in Chatham -Kent which concluded that there was no connection be- tween wind turbines and any health problems in the community. She said that study was peer-reviewed. After meeting with Mitchell on Thursday afternoon, Huron East Against 'Turbines (HEAT) spokes- person Gerry Ryan said the group is confused because of conflicting an- swers it is receiving about when the Green Energy Act will come into ef- fect. "It looks like the province is tell- ing us it's still in the municipality's jurisdiction until the Green Energy Act's regulations are released so we're in limbo until the Act is com- pletely passed," he said. Ryan said it's too soon to know if the 550 metre setback nowbeing proposed in the Green Energy. Act regulations will make a difference to the two five -turbine wind proj- ects in the St. Columba!' area being proposed by CASA Engineering and Construction of Toronto. We know that CASAis pro- posing a 450 me- tre setback but nowhere does it show what the actual measure- ments are so there's no way of measuring those distances," he said. Since the wind turbines are pro- posed to be located on four farms, which range from 50 acres to 200 acres, Ryan said it's difficult to de- termine how the setbacks will affect the plans and how the turbines could be arranged on the properties. Ryan said HEAT is still pushing for 1.5 km setbacks between wind turbines and residences. He said HEAT's petition asking for a mora- torium on wind turbines in Ontario until epidemiological studies can be done on the health concerns sur- rounding wind turnbines, now has 200 signatures. The Port Elgin meeting will be held at the Rotary Hall Community Cen- tre June 22.
