Warm weather has residents enjoying the outdoors
Lots of folks at Queensway Nurs-
ing -and Retirement Home have been
enjoying the spring weather; daily
• walks .are part of their agenda.
Sortie are knitting outside, doing
gardening, enjoying the sunshine
and watching the pigeon that has
been enjoying our gardens. _-
Four retirement home residents
enjoyed attending the Dining for Se-
niors program in Zurich on Wednes-
day afternoon with Julie Giimmin.ck
Retirement Home Director.
They enjoyed hearing about the
"Home At Last Program" offered by
lbwn and Country. A quick shopping
trip also happened after the event.
Retirement Home residents hosted

Is bummer really here in Winthrop
or is it just a taste? Whatever it is
welcome and long awaited. It sure
has been great for drying laundry
outdoors.
Rev. John's sermon on Sunday
was titled "Wake Up." Greeters and
collectors were Calvin and 'Diane
Flood.
The plant and bake sale held last
Saturday was a success with pro-
ceeds going to the Sunday School.
Upcoming events are a baptism on

Things are changing in Winthrop -
a new fence has been erected to con-
tain' animals on the property with
the barn in the hamlet.
Also, a new house is to be erected
. just west of the
store. As of writ-
ing, the hole has
',vtis been dug and the

Our Walk to the
Rockies continues as
residents are counting
their steps, last week we officially
marked our half way their point by
reaching Winnipeg.
One resident asked once we get
to the Rockies, how are we getting
back.
Manch., PTA and Julie get residents
motivated at the end of exercise class

on the spot while answering trivia.
One question asked what did la-
dies do in the past when stockings
were not available, Mandl and Julie
learned that ladies dyed their legs
the same colour as stockings.

pervisor made eggs to order on the

Food for Thought
The best rule of thumb for charac-
side up, over easy
and scrambled
were the popular
• choices. Bacon, fresh
fruit and toast were served with the
eggs. Kathy Holdsworth, adminis-
trator gave a helping hand to make
this event a success.
An education session was held for
Retirement Home residents in the
big lounge "Communication Strat-
egies", presenter Patricia, speech
therapist offered suggestions and
talked about different challenges se-
niors may have when communicat-
ing. Everyone learned several com-
munication strategies and points to
remember when speaking.
Mandi, PTA had a fun time assist-
ing residents with the WII program.
Bowling was the favourite sport.
Friday afternoon was Photo Show
& Th11. Residents brought out wed-
ding photos, pictures of their family,
their parent's baby pictures and an-
niversary pictures.
It was fun guessing which model
was the resident in the photos, dis-
tinct features of the residents helped
in the decision-making.
It was agreed upon, two particular
photos of our residents when they
were in their late teens, early twen-
ties, that they should have been mov-
ie stars. Outfits were commented on
and the quality of the photos.
We are looking for high school stu-
dents to complete their 40 hours with
us. Please contact Julie at 519-262-
2830 ext.4. There are lots of activi-
ties that you could assist us with.
