GEIGER, Catherine: Catherine Isabel . Geiger
passed away on May 16, 2009 surrounded by
her children, the love of her life, Donald and good
friend Linda. She was born Catherine Isabel
Schaefer on December 29, 1945 and from that
day her presence was a blessing upon the world.
Catherine had a very special way of brightening
the lives of everyone with who she interacted. She
did this in her marriage, of almost 21 years, to
Donald Geiger and poured her love into the lives
of her children, Dianne Dungey, Denise Wamsley,
Deborah Wamsley, James (Paula) Wamsley, Dana
(Willis) Mahood, Ben (Karen) Geiger, Tana (Bren-
dan) Guyitt, Kaleb (Chantelle) Geiger, and Darda
(Brad) Sales. She was their biggest cheerleader
and who they turned to for a listening ear, a great
hug and loving support. Her grandchildren, Tom,
Steven, Robert, Kate, Jake, Sam, Kaylee, Evan,
Kamryn, Silver, Lana, Aeva, Kennedy -Raine and
great grandchild Aurora, will miss her sweet way
of spoiling them and her enthusiastic zip for life.
Catherine, the beloved sistr of Olive Ropchan, Al
(Doreen) Schaefer, Carl (Jean) Schaefer, and Rus-
sell (Kim) Schaefer, was also a very caring, sensi-
tive friend to many. Her fun sense of humour was a
genuine gift. Catherine was a a fabulous teacher,
amazing cook, avid shopper, true golf lover and •
fervent book worm. Catherine and Donald enjoyed
their time travelling, dancing and dining together.
Her expertise on computers led her to helping
many people through teaching and consulting.
When Catherine was diagnosed with multiple my-
eloma, a form of cancer, in 2004, she quickly be-
came an .active leader of the London and District
Myeloma Support Group, involved in fundraising,
advocacy, and awareness. Her strength and cour-
age was an inspiration to the group. She excelled
at encouraging others, listening to their stories,
and being an informative resource. Special thanks
to the doctors and nurses in the Critical Care Trau-
ma Centre, Hematology department, and all the
staff at Victoria Hospital in London for the care and
attention they gave her. A Memorial Service cel-

Huron County's
subsidized
housing waiting
list growing
The list has gotten a little longer.
That was the word delivered by
David Overboe, social services ad-
ministrator, in reference to Huron
County's current waiting list for
subsidized housing during a May 19
committee -of -the -whole session.
As it stands, he said, there are 237
individuals on the waiting list, which
is "up slightly" from average figures.
The arrears rate for housing is also
on the rise to 3.12 per cent, up from
the county's normal two per cent fig-
ure.
However, noted Overboe, that fig-
ure is still notably lower than the in-
dustry standard of five per cent.
Overboe reported' the county is
still awaiting word on more funding
for the affordable -housing program,
which allocates grant money for po-
tential homeowners in the lower-in-
come strata.
One of the pitfalls of the newer ver-
sion of the program is the focus is on
helping buyers purchase new homes,
said Overboe, which is something
that will be difficult to achieve with
a price cap of $156,000.
Still, he said, the rationale behind
the program is to "get shovels in the
ground" and create new construction
jobs.
