Since she 'moved back to the farm she grew up on 19 years ago, Gene Bayn- ham and her husband Jim have been trying to stop trespassers on their 187 acres at Nixon Hill Farms. Worried about the liability: if anyone is hurt or killed when they ride their snowmobiles or ATVs on her property, Gene is fed up. - "It's sickening" she says. "When I do talk to the kids and ask them what they're doing, they say they didn't think anyone owned this land." "Arid, I tell them, 'Give me your ad- dress. I'd like to drive my ATV or my truck on your front lawn and see how you like it," says Gene. "We've had signs that are ripped right out of the ground and people have gone home for tools to remove the gates," says Jim. Properties (MAAP), cutting down the dangerous steep slopes of the gravel :` _•,; pit and planting them with grass and 1,000 trees. But, ATVers and snowmobilers have dug trails into the 'ground with their vehicles and destroyed almost all of the 1,000 trees planted in the former gravel pit. "We didn't make these trails," she says, walking at the back of the farm. "Every nice day, we can hear them back here. The trees never got a chance to grow." Jim says itdidn't take long for snow- mobilers to destroy the -1,000 trees. 'It's a piece of land the size of 10 football fields but you couldn't put a foot anywhere where there wasn't a snowmobile track," he says, of .all the traffic that ran over the trees.
