• More than 70 hikers hit the trails
recently in both Goderich and Wing -
ham in support of Huron Hospice
Volunteer Services, and it turns out,
70 hikers is worth about $7,000.
That's the grand -total figure re-
leased by the .care relief organization
as the result of the fifth annual Hike
for Hospice, a nation-wide fundrais-
ing effort, and the biggest one for the
Huron outlet.
"We're thrilled, people were very
generous to us," said an upbeat Shir-
ley Dinsmore, Huron Hospice execu-
tive director.
In Goderich, hikers went the dis-
tance along the Menesetung Trail
and ended up at the CPR rail station
where they were treated to a barbe-
cued meal.
Nearing the end of the nearly three-
hour excursion that allowed hikers to
set their own pace, it was announced
that the event's top.. fundraiser and
grand prize winner . was June MacE-
wen of Wingham, who brought in
$757 alone. MacEwen hiked away
the new owner of a mountain bike.
Huron Hospice is a dedicated team
of volunteers who provide compan-
ionship, listening and emotional
support to residents who are facing
a life threatening illness or injury.
The volunteers offer relief to en-
able .primary caregivers to feel com-
fortable to take time away or rest at
no cost.
Currently, Huron Hospice is work-
ing towards establishing an online
registration and pledge environment
through their web site, www.huron-
