Despite gaining the support of more
than 900 people who signed a peti-
tion to keep him in Seaforth, Mac" b
Milk contract dealer Tariq Muham-
mad may be sent back to Pakistan
this summer.
Muhammad thought if he could get
close to 1,000 signatures, it would
give some weight to his plea to stay
in Canada. But it's starting to look
likeit may not make a difference
anymore:
According to a Canadian Border
Services notice sent to Muhammad,
his last day here is set to be July 31.
But he's putting his faith in the
support of Huron -Bruce MP Ben
Lobb and his staff.
He's hoping Lobb and constituency
manager Bill Strong can build a case
for Muhammad to stay in Canada by
asking Minister of Citizenship and
Tariq Muhammad
Immigration Jason Kenney to recon-
sider his application for landing on
humanitarian and compassionate
grounds.
Muhammad is currently compiling
information to send to the Ministry
about the financial hardships he
expects to face if he is sent back to
Pakistan. •
He says finding a job that pays
well enough to support his wife and
two teenage childrenwould be hard
to find in his native city of Karachi,
which is becoming increasingly un-
stable.
Earlier this month, an outbreak
of violence killed nearly 30 people,
stemming 'from tension between the
ethnic Pashtuns and the Mohajir

community, of which Muhammad's
family belongs.
Muhammad says there are also
concerns about an impending tran-
sit strike in the city of 12.8 million
people.
Muhammad, 45, has lived in On-
tario for five and a half years. He
lived first in Ibronto before moving
to Leamington to work with other im-
migrants in greenhouses. He moved
to Seaforth and has worked at Mac's
Milk for three and a half years.
With the petition and Lobb's sup-
port, he was able to gain a ' three-
month extension on his stay in Can-
ada, after originally being told he
needed to leave May 20.
"Tariq is a good, hard-working
member of the community," Lobb
says. "People support him in Sea -
forth. He's the kind of person we
want in our communities."
Strong says that although he's not
heard yet from the Ministry about a
change to Muhammad's application
to stay on humanitarian and com-
passionate grounds, he'll continue to
build his case.
"We always have hope that some-
thing will change," Strong says.
. MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST
MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE DIVISION LINE BRIDGE AND
REHABILITATION OF THE SUMMERHILL ROAD BRIDGE
NOTICE O1: C0111'11:11(
THE PROJECT:
The Municipality of Huron East has completed Environmental Assessments to address deficiencies at two
structures located in the former Township of McKillop. The first structure, which spans the Dalton
Municipal Drain, is located on Summerhill Road approximately 1 km east of Beechwood Line. The
second structure is located on Division Line approximately 0.05 km north of the Canada Company Road,
west of the community of Walton (as shown on the accompanying key plan). Recent engineering
inspections have identified advanced deterioration with many components of both bridges.
The Summerhill Road Bridge will be completely rehabilitated including re -facing of the deck edge and
wingwalls and replacement of the existing curbs and railings with solid concrete barrier walls. Repair of
the Division Line Bridge is not considered practical at this time, given the extent of Structural deterioration
evident during the inspection process. The bridge will be replaced with a concrete box culvert capableof
accommodating two lanes of traffic. -At this time, it is anticipated that both bridge projects would be
completed during the 2009 construction season. Due to the extent of works involved, the affected road
sections for both structure's would be closed during construction for a period of 6-8 weeks.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCREENING PROCESS:
The planning for these projects is following the environmental assessment process set out for Schedule B
activities upder the Municipal. Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) document. The Class EA
process involves consultation with the public and review agencies to ensure that the project can be carried
out in an environmentally -sound manner. The environmental assessment process has now been completed.
There were no negative impacts identified with either project that could not be mitigated.
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT:
For further information on these projects, please
contact the consulting engineers: B.M. Ross and
Associates, 62 North Street, Goderich, Ontario,

the environmental assessment process conducted
for each bridge project will be available for public
review at the Huron East Municipal Office (72
Main St. S.) as of May 13, 2009, during normal
hours of operation.
If environmental concerns arise regarding the
project which cannot be resolved in discussion
with the Municipality of Huron East, a person or
party may request that the Minister of the
Environment make an order for the project to
comply with Part II of the Environmental
Assessment Act which addresses individual
environmental assessments. Requests must be
received by the Minister at the address below
within 30 calendar days of this Notice. A copy of
the request must also be sent to the consulting
engineers at the address above. If there is no
