as H1N1 now,"
she says, adding
that the influen-
za virus cannot
be contracted by
eating pork.
"Eating a
healthy diet, in-
cluding pork and
fruit and vegeta-
bles is probably
the best preven-
tion right now,"
she says.

Hand washing, staying home being urged as prevention

likely fine.
"We're not technically dealing with
a pandemic so we don't want people
to panic," she says, adding that the
media and the Ministry of Health
are doing a good job keeping commu-
nications clear on the topic.
She says the health unit is focus-
sing on encouraging the simple ba-
sics of good handwashing, coughing
or sneezing into your sleeve and
staying home if you get sick.
"We still have in circulation the
bugs in our own community so we
need to use common sense. If you
normally go to the doctor when you
get sick, do that but don't make a
special trip if you normally wouldn't
go," says Taylor.
She says that with all the prepara-
tion healthcare providers have been
making for years to deal with possi-
ble pandemics, precautions are being
taken to make sure those who are ill
are identified and
those who are
caring for .: them
are protected.
"SARS was
so unknown but
with influenza,
we understand
the dynamics of
the bug and we
know how to con-
tain it," she says.
Taylor adds
that for those
who have plans
to travel to Mex-
ico, they might
want to discuss it
with their doctor
and rethink the

CLUB
Annual membership in each hospital corporation shall consist of
persons interested in furthering the corporation's mission, vision and
values and whose application for admission as a member has been
approved by a resolution of the Board of Directors. Members are
entitled to attend and vote at the annual meeting, on business such as
changes to by-laws and appointment of auditors, and to receive
financial information.
No member shall be entitled to vote at any meeting of the Members of
the Corporation unless the Member has paid the annual fee in full at
least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the meeting. A person is
eligible to be an Annual Member where he or she pays to the
Corporation the annual membership fee of $10.00 and where he or
she meets the conditions outlined in the By-laws. Annual
Memberships in the Corporation are effective from April 1 in one
year to March 31 in the following year.
Annual Memberships can be purchased from the Business Offices at
the hospitals no later than May 15, 2009.
