ron omens helter will be included in
province -wide review of shelter services
The Huron Women's Shelter has
been a source of strength and of sanc-
tuary for women in crisis for years.
Put simply, they provide what needs
to be provided for women in difficult
times.
But exactly what do they do?
What happens after women leave
the protection of the organization?
How does the help received there
translate upon reentry into day to
day life? •
These are the questions executive
director Michele Hansen has asked
herself for past five years, and as of
last Friday, the answers are getting
to within reach.
Huron -Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell
was at the Goderich Library April
24, announcing a grant for $248,200
from the. Ontario Trillium Founda-
tion, which will be used to review the
services offered by the province's 96
women's shelters.

of shelter services will take place in
two phases.
"Phase one of the research will be
within the shelters," said Hansen.
"Ta map out the services currently
provided."
Consultations will begin taking
place across the province with shel-
ters, clients and other social services
to get a definitive picture of what the
shelter does and how it helps women
in the community.

to help victims of violence against
women, it cannot stop it from . hap-

huge task, but a vital one.
"You can't do community-based re-
search without getting in touch with
the community," she said.

other services
