Frank Sills,
former
Seaforth
mayor, dies
A former . Seaforth Mayor.
and longtime business owner
on Seaforth's Main Street,
Frank Sills, died last Thurs-
day at age 89.
Born on June 5, 1919 in
Seaforth as the fourth child of
Frank and Dora (Daly) Sills,
Frank lived in Seaforth his
whole life except for a few
years during and after the
Second World War and the
last 10 years when he lived in
Huronview Home for the Aged
in Clinton.
He was educated at St.
James School and Seaforth
Collegiate Institute and at-
tended the University of Th-
ronto (St. Michaels College)
for two years before enlisting
in the Air Force.
Throughout his youth, he
was a top student and good
athlete, playing almost ev-
ery local sport and winning
awards for his efforts. While
in Toronto, he playdd Junior A
hockey for St. Mike's and was
a member of the varsity band
and varsity soccer team.
In the fall of 1939, he went
to the recruiting office to sign

Fierce winds tore the roof off of
Bryan and Sharlene McClure's cattle
barn Saturday afternoon, depositing
it across Brydge Road ar.' ) closing the
road between Roxboro Line and Divi-
sion Line for much of the weekend.
"It got really windy and we could see
all this dust coming across the field
but we didn't hear too much," says
Sharlene of the Saturday afternoon
storm that caused damage and shut

until Monday morning.
Sharlene says her husband Bryan
was out behind the house around
3:30 p.m. Saturday fetching the dogs
when he saw the side of the 50 by 120}
foot barn roof begin to let go from the
walls.
"He ran into the house and told us to
hit the basement," she says.
"I saw her starting to flap and I was
gone.Itl3,appene so d fast," says Bcy-

over the house and smashed into an
old fir tree on the front lawn, crashing
down 300 feet away on the roadway.
"I just saw a roof flying at me. I ran,"
says Steven. "It cleared the house by
about five or 10 feet and was coming

The cattle barn was housing close to
100 animals included about 70 cows
and 30 calves but Sharlene says nei-
ther her family or the livestock were
