survey is under way.
That was part of the news delivered, April 14, during Huron County's com-
mittee -of -the -whole (COW) session.
Councillors learned the - South West. Local Health Integration Network
(LHIN), which is entrusted by the province with administering a region
stretching from Tobermory to the St. Thomas area, is currently embarking
ng
on a "blueprint for funding."
County Warden Ken Oke said the eight questions crafted by the LHIN re-
quire a "Philadelphia lawyer to analyze (them)."
"We didn't get any satisfaction from where they were going," he said.
Larry Adams, the county's Chief Administrative Officer, reported the South
West LHIN's studyis reportedly different from the one conducted by the
Erie -St. Clair LHIN, which assessed Emergency Rooms.
That process is eliciting a lot of controversy since the ERs of some commu-
nities, including the one in Wallaceburg could close.
"That was the concern we were obviously facing," said Adams. "We tried to
express that: If they're looking at it, we're quite concerned."
Still, said Adams, "we were assured that was not the case with the South
West LHIN." -
"We need to maintain the local flavour and local input," he said. "It's ex-
tremely important. ortant. that we keep it alive, active and vi -rant:"
Adams added that moving health-care staff to larger centres would result
in the loss of community input.

Dave Lew, Emergency Medical Services mcaii. er, reported 10 to 1, new
defibrillators will soon find new homes at area sc ools thanks to a donation
by the Heart & Stroke Foundation-
"At the rate they're donating these things out, how soon will they be put-
ting one in my kitchen?" quipped Coun. Bernie MacLellan (HuronEast).
In another report, Lew noted Lambton County is currently requesting
$20,000 for cross-border ambulance: services to Huron County.
Lew is waiting for direction from the Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus on
how best to handle the request.
"We're 'doing a lot of calls for •Bruce, Middlesex and Perth," he said, noting
if the wave of the future is to bill neighbouring areas, the county can start
there.
Lew said his impression is cross-border billing is no longer an issue given
the province now provides 50-50 funding for ambulance services.
